It's only tricky because other teams actually want him. There really isn't an urgent need to put Jacoby and Leinart at the top of FA day 2's to-do list.
LanceZierlein Lance Zierlein If Texans are taking 4 CBs to camp and two of them are Leinart and Orlovsky, then I'm not sure how they plan on having $ free for secondary I think he meant QBs..not CBs
Well, the deals that we struck with Leinart and Jones don't really affect us in terms of signing a big FA. I would think cutting the likes of Slaton, Orlovsky, and Okoye will go a lot further in that.
Cut that scrub (Dan O). Kubiak's and Smith's stubborness is annoying. Take a page out of Morey's book. You make a mistake. Admit it quickly and get rid of the problem.
lol. I guess they still trust "the kids" in the secondary. Why not just create the most lethal offense and instead of kick offs they just offside kick and play the odds?
Agreed. You've had an entire freaking year to evaluate Orlovsky against Leinart. The answer should be pretty clear. No reason to take away reps from your actual backup (I'm assuming Leinart) and your developmental QB (Yates) for a guy you don't plan on keeping. And that's not even going into the cap implications. This reeks of the Kris Brown fiasco from last training camp. That is, the Texans kept him on the roster (and had the farce of a competition) because Kubiak/Smith didn't have the stomach to just move on and let him go(until being forced).
i would say something about battlefightin, but i don't have the stomach for it anymore. waiting to get confirmation on mcclain's statement...
If we really are going to take 4 QBs into training camp, Kubiak and Smith deserve to be fired on the spot. And I'm dead serious. If this is the case, it's evident that this regime has absolutely ZERO clue on how to manage a football team.
Ok, I really don't think I'm enjoying this free agency anymore. It's getting a little exhausting. I can't wait for it to end. Just give me Sensabaugh and let me move on with my life....
You absolutely could take 4 QB's to camp to get reps for the young WR's (Dickerson, Toliver) and to run plays against a defense that needs to learn a new system. You don't need to pay the 'back-up' rate for two of them though.
And it's a nice built in excuse to pass on to McClain about how we didn't have any money for FA DBs. Houston Texans 2011-2012: "We Tried"
Of course it's more tricky because others want him, that's what i said. if you're trying to say that they thought it was more important to sign those guys than others, just because they signed first, then thats poor reasoning. Seattle wanted Leinart and maybe a team or two elsewhere. Jacoby, not so many i'm sure...same for Butler. Those are easy deals that you knock out, all the while still looking elsewhere.
The Bengals have, roughly, $35 million to spend to go north of the spending floor as per the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. Besides setting cash aside for the rookie pool, possible extensions for established players heading into the final year under contract, the Bengals have literally no excuse for not signing Joseph to a contract. Joseph may be a pipe dream as well.
