love their name (the connection to Poe)...their unis and logo. much more imaginative than my hometown team.

would far prefer to see the texans beat the hell out of them (and everyone else), though! :)

In fairness, I'll echo the point that justtxyank made. McNair isn't cheap in a Mike Brown sense. There's a reason the Texans are up against the cap every season. I think the more accurate description is that the Texans bigwigs have a serious aversion to risk/change. They'll pay to keep the team together (see questionable resigning of Jacoby Jones, for one example), but making the major cuts and restructuring needed to make a big-time play in free agency - it just hasn't been a part of the Texan DNA. Hopefully it'll change this year and they'll make serious runs at Asomugha and/or Weddle, but I'll need to see to believe at this point.

Well I obviously root for the Texans against the Ravens, but if it can't be the Texans I want the Ravens to win every game!

    Anyway, imagine this scenario:

    Aso to the Jets
    Weddle to the Jags
    Joseph resigns with Cinci
    Taylor already off the board
    Carlos Rogers signs with Dallas
    Josh Wilson resigns with Baltimore

Texans sign Gerald Sensabaugh, resign Jason Allen and sign burnt up Richard Marshall!

    Hooray Beer

Just wait till the Colts sign Reggie Bush. May not seem like much now but he'd slide right into that system and guess what? He'd play the Texans twice a year and he'd make it his personal mission to make sure that just for those two games that he's the sole reason we lose.

Meanwhile the Texans sign Sensabaugh and other teams that let their players go.

I hope I'm wrong...but I don't see the Texans signing Cromartie because of their choir boy rule, and Aso is looking slimmer as time goes by.

Joseph? We'll see but I have a feeling he'll just go elsewhere. Meanwhile we will be left with Florence or something as our CB that is supposed to turn the secondary around and Sensabaugh the Cowboys reject.

I hope I am wrong though...I really do.

Seriously, this isn't just a Smith/Kubiak problem. It was true under the last Texans regime. They fundamentally don't like free agency. They think free agency is when you go pay decent money to middle of the road free agents to fill your gaps. The long list of Texans free agent signings under both regimes if full of mediocre or worse players getting legit money from the Texans. Always up against the cap, never really progressing in talent.

It feels like the Texans always get players who were cut or let go rather than players who left their team.

In other words, we take on other teams rejects...

Tweet of the day from PFT's Gregg Rosenthal:

Compare that to John McClain's inane statement that the Texans would have to restructure every deal on the roster just to have a shot at Asomugha. I'm sure someone from the Texans front office is feeding him that bull**** to try and temper fan expectations, but the fact that McClain apparently can't see through it is just sad. It's appalling that the Houston Chronicle can't do better.

Antonio Smith was mediocre or worse? They also made serious runs at Bodden and Pace.

But yeah, 10 years in, you'd think they'd hit at least a couple times on a big name.

exactly right. does anyone honestly believe McClain's tweets aren't informed by the tone he gets from the Texans front office? that's not a defense of McClain, either.

sure was. i don't think i'm being unfair when i say that signing wasn't exactly a feather in Mr. Smith's cap.
