if we didn't have the worst secondary in the history of pro football, i can nearly guarantee you a 2nd receiver would be a priority. someone else as a threat and to stretch the field would be absolutely ridiculous. but...we've allowed the defense to get to the point where every draft pick and every free agent acquisition has to be about addressing it.
Seriously. LOL I keep forgetting that OD was basically a non-factor last year, so he's basically like adding a #2 if he's healthy this year. I still don't want Jacoby though.
Nope. It's a terrible deal. I don't know how much is guaranteed. If it's any significant amount, we've probably seen the end of any production out of him.
Honestly, seems like if we don't get Aso that we'll end up with Weddle and a solid corner. Wouldn't be bad at all. I like the fact that we are in the running, even if it's not from any credible source. It makes it entertaining. If the jets do sign Aso, I hope they realize their defense needs to hold a shutout if they want to win a game....that offense will be brutal.
Looks like Texans need to focus on Joseph, Cromartie, and Weddle. Problem is Rick Smith seems to be focused on signing our own free agents. FML good teams and gm's find ways to make things work.
This is probably how the Texans and Jets plan to sign Aso... “@michaelombardi: The Jets can make room to sign anyone they want--with a five year spread of bonus money and option money they can make his 11 cap number low”
Why do you think that? The reports on Weddle last night were that the Texans were last among the interested teams.
I've said all along there are ways to get creative with contracts to avoid taking a hit in the first year.
but you don't understand!!!! the texans have a salary cap!! didn't you hear? and they have their own players to sign, too! you can't possibly expect them to do something good. no one else in their position would ever be able to attract a top name free agent!!! all you guys are just blind skeptics!!!
Sorry, was typing on an iPad so I was trying to type as little as possible...I meant it more along the lines that I feel like we are willing to spend money and that there will be good options available if we don't get Aso...not that we would necessarily be getting Weddle. My bad.
I much prefer seeing Slaton try to drag on his career by stumbling and getting negative yardage on returns. Between him and Turk, im surprised they didnt have the worst special teams in legue history.
I find it curious that Aso's interest is being mentioned so much through the media. Almost as if he's trying to raise his price. I'm just going to sit back and watch. Every report doesn't hold weight. Just like around the NBA deadline. One moment it seems like nothing is going to happen and the next moment you've found out your team has received multiple draft picks and Kevin Martin.
I was sort of hoping they would let Jacoby go and give Dorin Dickerson a real shot. Not to mention some of the hype with this Tolliver kid. If not for his punt returning ability on a team starving for returners, he might have been gone. He's certainly replaceable as a receiver in this offense.
Seems like the texans have done a great job in keeping everything hush hush....they haven't really given much indication of anything. That could either be great or terrible.
