    Brewers interested in Clint Barmes?

According to a Brewers blog affiliated with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Brewers have "kicked the tires" on Clint Barmes.

Barmes is currently hitting .250/.318/.387 (.333/.370/.522 in the last 28 days), and would be an upgrade over Yuniesky Betancourt, who is hitting .252/.272/.371, bolstering their lineup.

I am surprised Barmes' name hasn't been thrown out there more. A lot of teams could use shortstops. He plays good defense and has been hitting real well the last month or so. The Astros shouldn't re-sign him next considering his age, how much money it will likely take, and the fact the team is nowhere close to competing. Might as well dump him, save some, money and get a couple of decent prospects.

I'm with you. I think Barmes ends up getting moved at the 11th hour. Never underestimate the pressure a lot of GMs are under to make a move at all costs. If a team whiffs on their big targets, they will often turn their sites to a smaller trade just for the sake of making a trade to upgrade the roster.

“@Joelsherman1: AL exec: said: #Astros asked big return on Wandy Rodriguez few weeks back, "will take little at deadline to get rid of most of his contract"”

Imagine if Ed Wade didn't sign Wandy to that long extension and what the Astros could have got for him. Contract has killed his value big time.

lol good ol' Uncle Eddy. Signs Myers, Wandy to huge extensions, looks to deal them following season.

His contract wasn't a bad one if they intended on keeping him. The option becoming guaranteed if traded is killer. He may have better value in the off-season.

IMHO I don't think Wandy's deal is bad at all, in fact it's pretty much market value. That being said, that 4th year that vests for 14 million if he gets dealt was a idiotic provision. Why would you do that if the chances he would eventually get moved were so high?!?

Myers has a shorter term deal that made sense if you thought he'd pitch close to the way he did last year HOWEVER he has completely fallen off, predictably. Why he wasn't dealt last July has become a bigger question then the extension Wade signed him for. You just don't sign pitchers to that kind of extension off half a season of good production.

Raise your hand if you thought NOT trading Myers and signing him to an extension last year was a good idea? How do these people get their jobs? Ugh.

Rumors of the Phillies being the most aggressive team after Pence are all over twitter, and Dominic Brown was just scratched from the lineup...

Yeah, Rosenthal reporting Phillies are after Pence, Red Sox inquired though a tough match, and Braves currently not involved

Only reason Domonic Brown was scratched was because Tim Lincecum has the flu and won't pitch tonight and was replaced by Barry Zito who is left-handed. Phils wanted John Mayberry who is right-handed against Zito.

Wow, I know it's Justice but he just stated on twitter that Pence and anyone else with value would be gone by the deadline or this Winter to fix the farm system. Basically an all out rebuilding process would begin the day Crane takes over.
