Here's a Lowry mention. Love it when Rockets get some recognition for their skill. http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/5-on-5-110725/point-guard-ratings
As long as Kyle sticks with the system and continues to work on his weaknesses he is our PG. I don't want to see him traded for anyone. We can't do better at point. Is he the best, no. But he is solid and has been clutch. I don't think he has peaked yet, I don't think he is an Aaron Brooks case.
No, people said he WAS a career backup, not that he would always be one. Come on now....let's not exaggerate to make a bad point worse...especially for me....I can make mistakes all alone without the need to have them blown out of proportion...hehe. DD
Well many of the people downplaying the effectiveness of Lowry had an agenda; they did not want to see AB lose his starting position. It is always exciting watching a young player who is fast enough to shake defenders at will and can down threes effortlessly. Unfortunately, this also blinded many posters here about the many shortcomings of AB. Lowry, even when his shot wasn't falling, had a much more polished game than AB ever did or has shown to have. Shooting is also something that can be moderately easy to develop, as opposed to court vision and passing abilities, which can take years to develop. Either way, I consider AB's injuries and trade to be a blessing in disguise. At the start of the season, he already presented symptoms of being a "head case" when he pouted and whined about not getting an extension instead of working his ass off and earning his payday. The trade allowed us to avoid any possible or future drama and also netted us a player that will not only serve as a GREAT backup, but a viable scoring two as well should Kmart get injured. I also personally consider Dragic a much better player than AB TBH. Either way, I wish AB the best of luck and continue to look forward to the play Lowry will give us at the PG position.
As am I. I always thought the implication was that if a player was a career backup, then its safe to assume they won't improve beyond that.
Yeah, I dont remember people saying "Kyle Lowry has been a backup his whole career so far." Instead, it was "he IS a career backup."
Well there ya go then, he was a career backup at that point, and is no longer, no wonder the arguments were huge, we were dealing with different sets of reference. Just because someone is a career backup, does not mean that is all they will ever be, at least to me. DD
I guess it depends upon what point in the career you are talking about, as Mr. Clutch eloquently pointed out Nash was a career backup after only 2 years etc.... Just depends upon your perspective. DD
No it does not. Perspective plays no role in what you are describing. Calling someone a CAREER back up means they will be a back up for their entire CAREER. It's one thing if someone admits they are wrong, as several people who pinned Lowry as a CAREER backup should. If those people didn't think that Lowry would be a back up the rest of his career, they would not have called him such. It really is that simple. Trying to defend them with semantics, wether you are among them or not, is stupid.
I disagree, when the argument was presented, and yes I was one of them, I said he was a "Career backup", now I am sorry that your view is not the same as mine. I think everyone is very happy that he is the starting PG, and that he raised his game significantly this last year. The reason for the statement was people pining for him to replace Brooks when to that point he had never been anything but a backup, thus the statement. People's careers evolve, and change, it depends upon how you look at it. I can't speak for everyone but for me, I meant he had been nothing but a career backup, and could not even beat out Mike Conoly (Sp?). Glad Kyle proved me wrong last year, let's hope for the good of the Rockets he continues to play as well or better going forward. 13-6, with pretty solid defense and a bulldog mentality is danged good for that position on this team. DD
Lowry was fantastic. At the beginning of last season, I honestly didn't think he was much more than the perfect bench spark. But I have been converted
That's what... Anyways, it's funny how Kyle seemed like a career backup until he wasn't anymore. And we all loved Brooks until we didn't anymore. Crazy how that works, huh?
It's merely a semantics argument then. I don't think career should be attached to any role unless someone means for the entire career. I don't think someone should call anyone a career backup unless they seriously think that they will be a back-up for the rest of their career, as the wording implies. but I see what your trying to say, and while I wont agree on your terminology, I understand what you meant. Thank you for clarifying
