I'm Thai, and was born and raised on Thai food.

I'd have to say that Bangkok Thai Cuisine , is the best and most authentic Thai food in Houston. They're located on Westhiemer (I think between Fountain View and Gessner?), it's a little hole in the wall that only opened a few months ago.

Secondly I'd have to say Vieng Thai, on Long Point (also, I think between Silber and Antoine?). They are really good as well.

I never was a big fan of Thai food in the US but I really liked the food in Thailand especially the food from street carts.

Thai Gourmet hands down. They have the BEST fried tofu. A nice big plate of pad thai or red curry and a Singha beer and I'm happy as a clam.

Verrry good to know. It opened up not too long ago, right by my Chase Bank. They deliver to my apartments...I will definitely try them out soon.

I'm a sucker for Red Curry as hot as they can make it.

Where is the place that people call Thai Nazi?

I have never been to Thai Gourmet, I will have to go after reading this thread,

For me my top order is...

    1. Thai Bistro (Red Curry, Pad Thai, and cheese puffs are really good)
    2. Nidda Thai
    3. Thai Cottage

Nidda Thai. Makes you forget about all the other Thai restaurants in town.

Another good one on the north side is Aroy Thai Cuisine, on Fairbanks North Houston near the horse racing track.

The Thai Nazi from Kanomewan passed away last year. Their food has been in the toilet ever since.

No it hasn't. Like any restuarant, they are going to have some off nights.........maybe you came across one; maybe two. I know too many regulars there (myself included up until last month when I moved away) to let someone say that. He didn't have anything to do with the food anyway. His wife did the cooking when he was alive. His widow does the cooking now. Same menu.........same taste.

And like any other restuarant I've ever frequented, I've occasionally had a dish there that wasn't "up to par." before his death.........and after.

And if it sounds like I'm being a bit defensive, I probably am. The crowds HAVE diminished since his death, and it was just about a month ago when a bunch of us met there for our last meal in Houston with friends, and some of our friends who attended---who were not regular visitors like we were---acted surprised. I'm probably paraphrasing, but someone said something like, "I heard the food wasn't as good here......it tastes just like I remember." It seems to me that Kanomwan is suffering from some bad and unwarranted word of mouth. They still have the best Thom Kha Gai and Thom Yung Gai this side of Thailand, and there is still only one restaurant in Houston that scores a higher rating for food from Zagat than Kanomwan. Kanomwan shares the number two spot with with a few others including one of your favorites: Teotihuacan.

Their top score is a 30, Kanomwan gets a 28, Thai Gourmet gets a 22

Bangkok Chef is the best Thai place I've been to thus far. I haven't tried a few of the suggestions on here, but damn... every dish I've tried so far has been exceptional.

They have a Sugarland location and a brand new one downtown.
