I guess I will buy the argument Dwight is probably only effective on D. And Yao will be used more for offence. Anyways, this is a close matchup Magic obviously > Chris Paul, but Paul will get his on offence as well. Barry+Bryant + Ray Allen+Lerbron at the wing Charles Barkley vs KG is a wash too. KG is more well rounded and plays better overall defense. But Barkley will give him trouble on offense too. Wilt > Howard no question though. I think having D Rose and VC is kinda redundant, and they lose a lot of size too so Wilt pretty much have to play the whole game. (but Pretty sure he can handle it). I think both teams will be running a lot during transitions, DRose, Chris Paul and VC are all great fast break players, and obviously VBG' s team is going to run with Magic and Lerbronbron.
I definitely don't think that VBG has a higher talent team. VBG.......................TheThing Pg-Magic Johnson > Chris Paul Sg-Ray Allen < Kobe Bryant Sf-Lebron James = Rick Barry Pf-Charles Barkley < Kevin Garnett C-Dwight Howard < Wilt Chamberlain The benches are pretty much equal. In my view, not only is TheThing's team more well put together, but it also has more raw talent overall.
Lebron James = Rick Barry? Barkley is usually put over Garnett in any PF ranking Vince Carter, Derrick Rose together on the bench is terrible.
Yes. Barry is a proven winner. Lebron has too many question marks in big game situations at this point in his career. Personally, I'd probably give the edge to Barry, but I'll concede that they are equal based on Lebron's athleticism. Garnett is a much better defender than Barkley. Plus, his offensive game is nearly as good. Also, when doing my research for this draft, I found that Garnett was typically placed above Barkley, so your statement regarding that simply isn't true. Vince and Derrick are both great players and would make excellent subs.
You're saying my team doesn't fit well together. He has CP3, Kobe, Rick Barry, Wilt, Derrick Rose, Vince Carter who all NEED the ball to be effective. I have Lebron, Magic, Charles and KJ who need the ball. Out of them 3 are fantastic passers. Only CP3 is a fantastic passer on his team. Plus, Barkley is probably gonna punch Garnett in the face sooner or later. Lebron isn't really needed in the clutch here though with Magic and Charles next to him. Ray Allen is fantastic too.
And you can't talk about playoff choking when you have Garnett on the other team. Lebron played ridiculously well in the playoffs with **** teams. 25+ straight on Detroit. 40-8-8 against the Magic. Destroying the Celtics and Bulls in these playoffs. In this matchup you can't really load up your defense against anyone. And if you bring up defense of Garnett better than Barkley (Barkley is a better rebounder and offensive player) then Lebron's defense is a lot better than Rick Barry.
You can just count the people that voted while logged in by just 'manually' counting the listed names, instead of paying attention to the poll result number. These are the 2 teams I've voted for from the beginning... I'm not sure who I want to win yet. :/ Currently 36-30 for VBG, so my vote might not matter eitherway.
Listening to guys talk about their own teams is like having to listen to car salesmen promote their own vehicles. You know that no matter what you say, no matter how logical you are, there is absolutely no chance whatsoever that they will ever change their opinion, so there's no point in even trying.
Barkley was never known as a great defender. Howard is not even in the same stratosphere as the Big Dipper. Barry is on another level than Lebron, he is ervery bit as good of a distributer and passer as Lebron if not better. The two best players are clearly Magic and Wilt followed by Kobe and Barry. Ray and Howard are clearly pulling up the rear of that group of players. It would be a great game and in a 7 game series it might even go 7 games but The Thing clearly has a better team IMO and would win.
Did you ever watch Barry play? Barry is better than Lebron and if you watched the man play you know this is not even debatable at this point of Lebrons career. Barry was 100 times more clutch than Lebron. He was the best player on a team that won an NBA championship. Barry did a lot of the things that Larry Bird did (no he was not as good as Bird), great passing, great leader, great clutch shooting underrated defender and he made his teammates better. He was arguably the best player at his position for a decade (I still go with Dr J). Don't underrate him because he was white, played in the 70's and utilized the granny shot.
Well, Wilt did average over 45 minutes per game for his career and played every minute one season (including OTs) to end up at 48.5 minutes for the season. Even as a 36 yo he averaged over 43 minutes a game. Wilt was an iron man.
Yes, but he played those minutes against competition that was significantly inferior to Dwight/Yao. If Dwight is playing his hardest and is relieved by Yao playing his hardest, there's no way Wilt would be able to keep up with both of them without rest.
At the end of it, I'm leaning towards thething. Wilt have a big advantage over Dwight/Yao. And for those saying time split between Dwight/yao. There is always Cowens that could come in and slide KG to guard them.
It looks like VBG has it unless my team gets some last minute votes in with a day left. It's been fun. I enjoyed this.
I'll be honest. I think your starting lineup has the most talent out of everyone. I don't think they mesh toegther that well (except Garnett who would be fantastic) and I don't particularly like your bench because Rose and Carter are both purely offensive threats while your team already has a lot of them. But damn that starting lineup is ridiculous
wow, no MJ in the final. Good luck to both of you, the teams look amazing, but since I think the better team was eliminated so I wont vote. And once again for organizing this and made the lockout + off season better!
i'd like to say congrats to VBG for winning! I had fun doing this. I hope someone thinks of other things to do, to make some basketball conversation during the lockout.
Thanks for organizing. Thanks to all the voters. And thanks to everyone who participated. It was a lotta fun. Helped keep away the boredom of the lockout
