Look, I'm as big an Andre fan as any of you, but Rice without question is the best receiver to ever play. Yes he had Montana and Young(that would have helped Dre no doubt) but we can sit here and play what if all day. Do I hope Andre surpasses Rice as the best? Yes, but that time isn't here, yet. Rice all day, but I'm not disappointed in the least in anything Andre Johnson.
You want a dude to kiss your a-hole? I don't even want a girl to get close to mine. Something is wrong with you.
i'm not talking stats, physically he is the closest thing to jerry rice. he is the biggest strongest fastest and most athletic. moss is athletic and fast but not strong and not a blocker. to is strong, but not that fast for a wr. larry fitzgerald is strong and agile but not that fast also imo. dre is the freakin total package physically a freakin freak. macbeth was a huge san fran fan. and one day he was trying to explain how physically overwhelming jerry rice was back in his day. and its the same thing with dre.
That would actually be Randy Moss. And as unbelievable as Moss has been he still won't likely catch Rice, but he will be number 2 in many of the stats behind rice.
you no nothing about rice, moss is wirery strong, don't get me wrong, but no where near the league of dre and moss
You cannot dismiss stats then basically rely on physical stats Speed. . . Size. . .strength . . Potential is what you are describing. . until he DOES IT . . it is not done! Rocket River
I'm not sure what to think of the TD thing. I think it's very possible that Andre has just been unlucky, first being stuck with first a crappy QB then last year having TD beast Arian Foster. But you'd think at some point he would have a big TD year. He did have 8 TD's in 9 games during the 2007-08 season before getting hurt. His yards per game and average per catch are so high, it's kind of puzzling.
Nobody had the discipline that Jerry Rice had. Dude would win a Super Bowl then be running sprints the next day. He put in major work on the practice field until the day he retired. His preparation set him apart.
Jerry Rice over Andre Johnson. Jerry Rice was the most dependable receiver and productive FOOTBALL PLAYER to ever play. Trying to make it where its like Jerry Rice is Emmitt Smith, average athletic attributes just maximizing his production with hard work and durability in a good system. I'd say Jerry Rice is more like Barry Sanders that happened to be in a good system. I'm the opposite. Andre is no choker, he's a man capable of putting the team on his back and has. But no one was more sure handed and automatic than Jerry Rice when you needed a catch. If Andre had more TDS, a couple of double digit TD years, he'd maybe put it in his favor.
Yeah, I loves me some AJ - he's been the sole bright spot in the dark pit that's been the Texans' history so far - but it's waaaayyy too early to start dumping Jerry freakin' Rice for him. I'm not saying that one day we won't consider AJ at the top of that list, of course, but we ain't there yet.
i know andre johnson hasn't done anything in this league, that's why they're comparing him to jerry rice --->
Andre Johnson beat up Cortland Finnegan. Did Jerry Rice ever pimp slap Darrell Green or Rod Woodson? I think not.
we're gonna throw out the early years because of being on an expansion team and talk about the kubiak years. wide receivers didn't produce a lot of touchdowns in denver either, particularly mccarfrey and rod smith. smith also had some high avg per catch years. the tight end was productive in that system probably taking away some from the receivers, remember their tight end, shannon sharpe. houston has a pretty good one also. i'm not disrespecting rice, rice did turn 5 yard slants into 60 yard tds more than anyone else in the history of the sport. amazing to watch, but he played in a system that it probably took the league five seasons to catch up with. you have to count the fact he was on a phenomenal offensive team.
It's close, but I'd rather have Andre Johnson going across the middle. I'd rather have Jerry Rice going down the sideline, and it's not close.
Creator versus Innovator Harder to Break new ground . .than to follow the path laid for you. Heck . . I could argue the new pass interference rules helps AJ more than Rice and various other PRO-OFFENSE made rules. Honestly . . .this is like saying LeBron over MJ LeBron has all the tools. . but until he does it . . . . you just cannot say he has done it. If you scoff at the comparisons of LeBron to MJ . . or Kobe to MJ . . . or whoever to MJ then . . .you really should be Scoffing here too. SERIOUSLY, that is how big a difference it is between the two of them . .. right now. Rocket River
Andre Johnson is the more physically talented player. Rice had good/great production through age 41, which is very uncommon. He also had big games in the playoffs and Super Bowl, which AJ hasn't even had the opportunity to do. AJ is far from a lock for the HOF. WR's have an incredibly difficult time getting elected when compared to other positions. Does anybody hear think Torry Holt is a HOF lock? Thru 8 seasons, Holt had more receptions, yards, ypc, and TDs than AJ. WRs I can think of recently elected into the HOF: Irvin (3 SB wins) Monk (3 SB wins) Stallworth/Swann (4 SB wins) I certainly think AJ is on his way to a HOF career, but the way the voters treat WRs, doesn't make it a sure thing.
My thoughts: -- the whole judging WR solely on TD numbers is stupid, stupid, stupid. Add to the already good points made against this fallacy the fact that teams didn't go to the TE as often for TD back in the day. -- Rice had better (waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy better) QB play, and that counts, even if you want to pretend it doesn't. -- Whoever said TO or Moss is better: ROFLMAO -- Perhaps a better question that the original one posed would be "3rd and 17: AJ or Rice?" -- Best post in this thread: What RFer would you rather start your franchise with: "Lance Berkman or Ted Williams?". Nicely done, Buck. -- That Tim Brown is not currently in the Hall of Fame is not a good argument against AJ. It's a travesty that should be rectified immediately. Just because Brown played for the NFL's longest running sick joke doesn't mean his body of work should be overlooked. The guy was incredible. Chris Carter should be in, too. And barring injury or just losing it early, AJ will go in. All that said, AJ will end up the greatest WR of his generation, but he ain't Jerry Rice. Nobody is Jerry Rice. Buck nailed it.
