Honestly . . . last I recall the Touchpad is usually connected by a thin ribbon cable.
you have to 'slide' it into this fixture and then push the 'caps' to hold it into place

Which means you can have 1 of 4 issues:
    1. The cable is bad
    2. The caps are not holding it snug
    3. The connection to the motherboard is bad
    4. The connection to the palmrest is bad.

    1. I am unsure but i think it is hard connected to the palmrest - Result Replace Plamrest
    2. Caps not snug = Replace Motherboard
    3. Replace Motherboard
    4. Replace palmrest

So . . you best case senario is the CAPS are not pushed all the way in and the wire is lose. [the tech will take the laptop apart and push them in and then close it back up.]
Next is to replace the palmrest [dunno how much the cost but it is basically the full plastic top of your laptop that does not include the keyboard.]
Worse Case is replace the Motherboard [which is almost like buying a new computer - probably over 150$ just to buy the part]

Generally speaking . .. I think any senario will start at . .at least 100$ [and i think i am lowballing you on this number. . . i expect more]

. . . the cheapest way maybe to get an external mouse [6$]

    this makes zero sense.

    If......
    a) trackpad not working
    b) bought wireless mouse and hooked it up
    c) wireless mouse is behaving exactly as trackpad is

    Conclusion: Problem is software

In pc troubleshooting, if known good hardware is not working, the problem is most likely with Windows.

To ensure the new mouse is working, plug in to another computer and see if it still behaves the same.

    I concur with R2K.

Did you go into the mouse settings and tell windows to turn off the trackpad when you plug in an external mouse? Try that and let us know.
