There is the iPhone4 unlocked from Apple themselves. Like other have said, if you think she'll be okay running on WiFi/Edge then it will be good. I don't understand the Apple hate by the way, most people don't use their phones to their full capability so it really doesn't matter all that much which phone they go with.

Get her a Blackberry with the keyboard. All teenage girls that I see are using that because they love to text. Stay away from hi tech touchscreen phone.

Don't be stupid getting her something expensive because it will get stolen or easily break. Get a freaking phone that can make call, text and doesn't die on you no matter how many time you drop it.

I just upgraded my phone, before that my phone was 1 year old and I guarantee you pound for pound it kicked the crap out of your Iphone. As for your virus arguement. Android had a few malware apps, and yes we have antivirus apps for such a problem.

    http://www.ipadnewsdaily.com/new-anti-virus-app-removes-malware-from-iphone-ipad-1363/

I guess this is just an example of wasted time then.

As for your easier argument. An old school Star Tac is easier to use than an Iphone does it make it a better phone?

Finally lets tackle your privacy crying.

    http://www.mobilemarketer.com/cms/news/legal-privacy/6872.html

Hmmmm looks like apple had to answer for their private information collection policies to the US Gov.

In other words, you have a vastly inferior product.

The iPhone and Android phones are both good. I don't see why you're knocking the iPhone. You really can't compare them anyway... but it's all a matter of preference... like with PS3 and Xbox. Yes, the specs may be better on one side... but that doesn't necessarily make a phone inferior to another. It's all about performance and preference.

If you had a vetted App Store and a mobile OS that emphasized security over rushed features and terrible battery life (LULZ WE GOTS TRU MOLTITASKIN GUEYZ), then you wouldn't need them. You may not notice them running, but I promise you that your battery does.

Wasted time in the sense that you did not read the article. As it says, "Intego's VirusBarrier iOS allows iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users to scan their devices and 'detect and eradicate all known malware affecting Windows or Mac OS X,'" It's anti-virus to detect virus in files that you might transfer to your PC or Mac. Derp.

And if something is more complex it's automatically better? By your logic, we should add a couple hundred more tax laws to the IRC, that'll make it work better!

Don't keep up with the news much do you? Google was part of that too. Let me know when Apple is charged by the FTC for deceptive privacy practices

In other words, I choose the product that fits my needs and expectations as a consumer. I don't trumpet around on internet forums looking for trouble so I can thump my chest and declare to someone I have a better phone than them. Do you roll down the window while driving and talk trash to everyone who was a "vastly inferior" car than you?

My battery life is just fine. I get through a whole day and get to enjoy creature comforts like a faster browser with flash.

    A true multitasking platform

HDMI out and remote tethering to my laptop and TV, ect ect ect. I could go on and on.

Derp??? Its an app for malware on your iphone.

Here you go, since you fail to believe its possible.sthttp://www.theappsmachine.com/iphone-news-and-rumors/malicious-iphone-malware-can-now-do-real-damage-and-steal-your-personal-data/ill

I understand that google was part of the same privacy issues, your point that you tried to so poorly make was that Iphone didn't have the same issues. You TRIED to imply that only google devices had such problems. So if apple and google phones have the same problems your refer too, then it boils down to specs, hardware, price, ect ect. In which apple fails miserably at.

Here let me take some direct quotes for you.

New Anti-Virus App Removes Malware from iPhone, iPad

The security firm Intego has released the first anti-virus app specifically designed for Apple's iOS mobile devices.

Earlier this month, a security hole was detected in iOS 4, the newest mobile operating software. It is currently being exploited by cybercriminals and is still unpatched.

Reported. Not liking Apple and iPhones does not give you the right to go around calling people "stupid" and "idiot". Please stop.

I'll repeat the quote I already posted: "Intego's VirusBarrier iOS allows iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch users to scan their devices and 'detect and eradicate all known malware affecting Windows or Mac OS X,'"

It's written FOR iOS because it runs on iOS. It has nothing to do with detecting malware that targets iOS. The security hole you reference was a jailbreak via PDF, and it has since been patched (last week).

I wasn't trying to imply anything. What I stated was a fact. Google is an advertising company. They make money by collecting information on you. The more information they get from you, the more money they can make through selling directed advertising. That's why they give so much of their stuff away for free. Those who are thrifty are biting hook, line and sinker on it. They're being exploited and most don't know or care.

Yes sir. I don't recommend iphone 2g , 3g, 3gs, iphone 4, nor the new iphone 5. Android is the way to go and here is why iphone is not

    * nNO memory card or removable one . You have to wipe it clean to factory setting whenever you need to sell or get rid of it or transfer the files, mp3, pictures, and what not to the pc.

    * only apple approved apps.. no alternative markets. As a developer like myself i can publish apps for android market, amazon, and mikandi <--adult apps FYI.

    * You can't take out the battery. What happen when there's a defect to the battery? Have to send it in instead of doing it yourself as easy as taking it to any phone carrier and purchase a battery to replace it on any android phones.

    * STILL no true multi-tasking like Android. it turns out that Jobs really had no clue about how to do that. Instead Apple did multi-tasking like everyone else and now fanbois are reporting that their batteries are being sucked dry by the new iphone 4. Apparently it is possible that the Iphone 4 can run its battery down in just four hours, particularly if you run a sat-nav application that keeps the GPS chip busy.

    * You cant customize your phone AT ALL...except waterdroplet wallpaper LOL. Gets kind of boring seeing all the apps clutter on the home screen in front of the wallpaper. When the new sensation has live weather broadcasting wallpaper.

    * no Flash support.. really Steve?!?!?!!?!?!? Don't worry you'll fanboys will get it once iphone10 comes out lol

    * no widgets...I Love seeing my espn scoreboard widget to keep up to date on the score for my favorite teams with a swipe to the left of my home screen instead of having to open up the applications and wait for it to load. True multi tasking right there

    * no free GPS navigation... Opps my bad. There are oodles and oodles of free GPS apps floating around in the iTunes store ... its the turn-by-turn voice navigation is not free. Sucks driving around missing your exit lane without being notify haha

    * no free wireless music MP3 downloads. I can download any song right now on my phone through mp3skull.com. Who cares if the quality is not that great. Will be deleted once i get tired of the song anyway.

    * But Iphone has more memory. Yeah if you want to pay extra $300 on top of the original phone price. I'm satisfy with my external 8gb of sd card that i have been using over and over again whenever i get a new android phone. Pay a one time fee of 20 bucks at micro center.

    * all file syncing MUST be done through iTunes (pictures, etc.)

    * most Android phones have better cameras.. A FACT! Ask sensation or g2x

    * the new iPhone has horrible antenna issues.. like always

    * no refunds for paid apps... at least google give you 15min to test it out

    * instant Android OTA software updates- don’t have to go through iTunes like iPhone.. they say iOS5 will get OTA... gawd... iOS5... a Android OS copycat!!!

Android is miles ahead of Apple. Even with the new "COPYCAT of Android" iOS 5 software, Apple is only now letting people do things that Android can, like add folders to their home screen, because God forbid that anyone should be able to do that on their cell phone!!!! And even in 4 years, they haven’t been able to give the iPhone true multi-tasking capabilities, like Android unless you want to charge your phone every 4hrs. It took them 4 years just to put a flash on the camera!!!!! OMFG... By the time Apple puts out the new iPhone 5, aka the iphone 4S, there’s a BUNCH of Android phones out and even BETTER androids 4 months later, since Technology and Android are in sync!!! Bottom line: they will always be trailing Android. Always... iOS 5 is Steve Job's and Apple desperate plea to keep iphone users from defectiving to Android.

    Revenge of the nerds baby!!!!

I see this thread has gone predictably stupid and pathetic. smh

A shame your thread got screwed over SacTown, but it's nice you want to do something for your niece. Since she is on TMobile though, your only iPhone option is an unlocked one, but as mentioned it will be missing a few things on that network.

Maybe an iPod Touch would be an option? Don't know. good luck to ya

It's not hard to switch to ATT or Verizon if she's not on contract. I don't think she would be happy on EDGE, it would be slow as crap.
