The fact that this is even an argument is good for Dre' I think he's the only one that will come close to dethroning Rice as the all time WR....and if he didn't have Schaub and that horrible Oline for all his years in his younger years no doubt he'd be statistically closer too. I remember one of the ESPN guys saying 'If you wanted to build the perfect WR, it'd be Andre Johnson.'
my personal description of andre, "the closest thing to jerry rice since jerry rice retired". casserly and capers nailed that one at least
Oops I meant Carr. Carr has probably ruined Andre's chances at catching Rice's records. He does hold one though that's pretty significant. Which is average of yards per game over a career.
Actually, getting drafted by a 2nd year expansion team mired by a horrible draft and the new NFL expansion rules likely ruined those chances. The fact that he's accomplished as much as he has with those teams speaks volumes to the type of player he is and actually should make him look even more favorable in the eyes of HOF voters.
How about both? Rice the all-time breakaway downfield threat. AJ the ultimate possession receiver. And yeah, both of them can do everything.
I often wonder what kind of numbers Andre and Peyton could put up if they played together. Peyton makes anyone in a Colts uniform look like a star, so imagine him paired up with the best WR in the league.
Jerry Rice is arguably the greatest player in NFL history and he blows AJ out of the water in terms of TD production. No debate.
There is more to a WR than number of TD catches. Rice would never have that many TD receptions in a Texans uniform. Terrible analysis.
You homers are seriously going to sit here and argue that Andre Johnson might be the greatest WR of all time? Laugh out ****ing loud. 1.) Your TD argument is not going to work out in your favor. Please explain that logic to me, since the WR position requires a high degree of individual skill of gaining separation from the defense and then eluding defenders to produce TDs. You can't put it all on shoddy QB play, especially since the Matt Schaub era in which he consistently finishes with an above average passer rating. Dwayne Bowe caught 15 TD passes last year with Matt Cassel at the helm. Braylon Edwards caught 16 TD passes in 2007 with Derek ****in Anderson at QB. Jerry Rice has virtually every receiving record there is. Andre Johnson has never caught more than 9 TD passes in a season. Jerry Rice caught 9 TD passes in his first year in Oakland at the age of 39. Jerry Rice caught 22 TD passes in 1987... in a 12 game season. I can go all day here.
True, AJ's still producing despite the boneheadedness of Kubiak. Such a waste seeing him try out the WR screen twice a game.
Yeah and the 49ers threw it to Rice every time in the red zone, because Roger Craig was worthless. Lets throw out QB production and coach boneheaded-ness and look at this stat then... Andre Johnson averages a TD catch 1 out of 13.4 catches. Rice's career average was 7.8.
You keep going to the TD number moes...and thats precisely your problem. So youre saying Braylon Edwards and Bowe are better receivers than Andre because they have more touchdowns? Whats the point of showing their touchdowns...its all a result of the situation they are in. Going by touchdowns is equivalent to judging a pitcher by win/loss.
