http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...wojnarowski_nba_agents_decertification_072311 It won't work for the NBAPA if it decertifies IMO.
I think will be an even bigger stick for the NBA players because unlike the NFL. One LeBron is worth more than 30 5th starters in the NBA. LeBron and other superstars on the open market with no cap in place would set off a war with the small markets and the big markets. Smaller markets simply could not compete. Imagine what a local TV station would pay the Rockets if they signed Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Blake Griffin. Would it be worth it for Houston to pay them $25 million a season each?
NBPA trying to copycat NFL Players Union is going to be one big failboat. NFL bluffed out of greed and the players were ready. NBA isn't bluffing. The one card the players do have is overseas leagues offering fair money. They should jump asap. All of a sudden, the "starve them out" tables are turned. Several NBA teams don't have the cash to pay creditors for a full year.
As long as teams like the Lakers , Bull and Celtics don't have to share their tv money with the rest of the teams in the league. Small market teams will continue to get the sort end of the stick and end up in the red. I don't see how David Stern can Justify calculating players salaries as a whole but wont distribute Revenue between teams as a whole.
The overseas card is a barely disguised bluff. There aren't enough jobs overseas that pay enough to make an impact. The precious few who leave will also find out how good they had it in the NBA.
Ive been wondering why more players havent gone already. I also see this as ammo for the players to use against the owners. D-Will and Kobe going overseas would have a massive impact on other players decisions. Not many have the balls to step up and be the leader, they all wanna wait and follow (Im talking about the big names).
Because there aren't any teams that will pay the same salary to half the league, let alone 450 players(30 teams x 15 players). The average salary in Europe and Asia is lower than the NBA league average. Look at the salaries of the guys that have gone over before the strike. Francis, Marbury, and Iverson don't even make half their old salaries. China has no salary cap limitations, but players make more money off their sneaker sales than their salary. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/03/08/AR2011030806262.html
