The 3rd one ruined the first two movies. The first two movies were great, but they botched the 3rd so bad that they are forced to remake it. It was an epic failure, even though I thought 3 was entertaining, in terms of storyline it was all muffled. Made Venom, probably the most popular villain in all of Spiderman into a failure. He was on screen for what, all of 20 minutes before they killed him? Way too many villains in that movie, I mean you've got the symbiote, sandman, new goblin, and venom. The entire 3rd movie should have been about Peter dealing with the Symbiote while simultaneously fighting sandman and the new goblin, and none of that emo peter parker BS (even though it was hilarious in hindsight). That scene where Peter is at the church trying to get rid of the symbiote, should have been the LAST SCENE of Spiderman 3. Have the final thing that we all see be it infecting Eddie Brock and engulfing him into Venom. That sets up Spiderman 4 perfectly, and having it all about Venom.
PROTO-Goblin??? If they wanted to reboot the series and have a dramatic story they should have done Carnage. He is the only villain that they have not done and could hold his own as the main villain. In a perfect world, Spiderman would tackle the Sinister Six but I think that's way to hard to fit story wise. All and all not impressed to see that the storyline maybe the same damn thing. And without Bone-Saw making a cameo, why waste money to see it?
I doubt very seriously I'll enjoy this as much as I did the first Raimi Spiderman movie....but I also have no doubt that I'll see it and enjoy it.
LOL at Bebop's irrational hate. My interest in this reboot is awfully low. Raimi did a fantastic job melding the comics with Hollywood...until #3, which IIRC was a major product of studio meddling. Starting over with another boring emo origin kickoff film blows. Carnage wouldn't work, since he's got zero name recognition outside of Comicon types. Sinister Six would be the best way to go....but set up as a trilogy. Introduce them over the course and let them team up in the third film. Let a couple of them be patsy background types to avoid stuffing too many storylines into a film. But whatever. I think this is going to flop in a big way, and it should. Too bad Marvel can't get back its franchises. They could do a Spiderman-Daredevil-Punisher crossover flick.
It was the weakest of the three but nowhere near as bad as any of the Joel Schumacher Batmans. It made $340 mil domestically and $900 mill world wide. By no means was it a failure. I think this reboot is gonna teach the studios some hard lessons on rebooting successful franchises.

that actor just seems like bad casting. Something about him bugs me...maybe it's because he looks a little like Gasol
Looks like Ifans got arrested at comic con. Potential spoiler in the article as it tells you who the villian is, although it was fairly obvious in the trailer, imo. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/07/23/people-rhysifan-idUSN1E76M06H20110723
Awesome P.R., don't you think? People will hate the villain more. "U-S-A! U-S-A!" Also, you made me LOL with the Gasol comment just before this post. Thanks for that, sir.
Wait a minute. They're bringing back the righteously aggrieved "I like standing net to you, Sean. It makes me look so tough," Social Network guy as the next Spider Man? (NSFW: language, inferior video quality) <iframe width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/D6vtli7-lxs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> That's pretty cool, actually. I'll watch that.
