This is absolutely great. I have never seen this before. Thank you for sharing this. Hakeem is definitely one of my idols.
wasn't cassel interviewed on letterman that same series? i thought it was after game three, but maybe i'm remembering it wrong, and YouTube is no help.
Yeah, they brought Sam on because his personality and on-court fearlessness made a big impression during the series. There were even rumors of Madonna wanting to date him.
i remember this well. he was on a 2nd time somewhere down the road (maybe after the 2nd championship?), and horry was as well (seperately) if my memory serves me right, and dave tried on his coat and called him "the gentle giant". good memories.
Here it is the Top 10 of David Letterman after the rockets won the championship in 1995. Top Ten Orlando Magic Excuses 10.Didn't want game 5, we're going to see "Batman Forever" 9.Sometimes being so tall makes your kinda dizzy 8.Can't prove it, but pretty sure one of the refs was a brother of one of the Rockets or something 7.Too busy tying yellow ribbons 'round old oak trees (that's a Tony Orlando excuse) 6.Couldn't concentrate after hearing Michael and Lisa Marie actually do it 5.In a perfect world, Connie still would be doing CBS News 4.Ran out of Gatorade and had to use bugs and rain water 3.Anfernee Hardaway didn't score enough bafkets 2.Yeah, like we want to go to the White House and get our ass shot at 1.What do we care, we're already in Disneyworld!
LOL @ "temporarily leading" Also, Dave calls him "champion" before he is one. "St. John's was too cold"... then WTF *WHY the F* did you go to TORONTO?!?!?!?! Ugh... never mind. I still love you, Dream. EDIT: I also recall that during the same championship series, Letterman had Dikembe Mutombo on the show and asked him whom he would want to win the championship, being from Georgetown (Ewing, Knicks) and also being a foreigner from Africa (Olajuwon, Rockets), to which Dikembe replied: "It's like seeing two men walk in the desert for a long time [after chasing the championship], and they finally get to a water fountain... you want both of them to drink that water..."
I caught myself smiling the whole time too. Gotta love Dream, so classy - and I've seen this before, but I didn't remember he went DURING the series, I always thought he went after we won. What a baller for having the balls to go during the series.
