Arian is awesome. I love his attitude. He just wants to get back on the field / back into the stadium.

With a cap being instituted for the next 10 years, won't positions be seeing changes in pay scales? Foster will be enjoying a new contract I guess next season, but with such a short lifespan for the RB position they demand a lot of money, will it alter now that there's a ceiling?

Some top earners from last year:
    Reggie Bush $10,585,000
    Brian Westbrook $8,633,333 - released
    LaDainian Tomlinson $7,541,669 - released
    Steven Jackson $7,399,166
    Darren Sproles $6,621,000

That's a big chunk of the cap, but with the rarity and increased wear and tear of the featureback, it's hard to predict whether the price will rise or fall.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding...but there has always been a cap, it's not something that is going to be newly instituted.

    Salary cap of 142 mil?

Thats 22 million more than expected. If the floor is 95% of that, then teams need to spend 135 million. What is a team like Tampa going to do? Just randomly dish out 80+ million dollars in contracts?

I think the 142 number is the number PLUS bonuses. Remember that the players wanted to crack down on teams using those bonuses to meet salary cap. I think the number they have to be at 95% of is still the $120 something number.

Yeah, that's pretty significant. Did he misspeak? I continue to read $120MM.

Floor or no floor, Tampa would be an idea landing spot for Nnamdi if he's at all interested.

I know it won't happen, but Houston, Texas would be a great landing spot for Nnamdi. They'll bolster their safety position with Sensabaugh and Quin, they'll have actual NFL coaching for the secondary, Jackson will have at least experience in how *not* to do it, they just had a strong draft for defense, and they have an elite offense...

...and, if the defense really turns around with Nnamdi as the key addition, he will be seen as the key cog that broke a bumbling mediocre franchise to the next level.

There's your sales pitch, Nnamdi. See you in a couple weeks. ;)

If I were them, I would ask their young stars like Freeman back to the table, and offer them a big raise and a front-loaded contract. Add to that the promise that while their salary will decline over the next few years, they'll add serious free-agent talent around them.

One funny thought...landing Asomugha could end Jackson's career. As it is, teams don't though at his side, as it is QBs love targeting Jackson. I don't think Kareem would make it 3 games.

One thing people should remember about Aso is that (at least as far as I understand) in the Oakland system he guarded one side of the field. I think I remember reading that in Wade's system the CBs will move around. It should be harder to just avoid throwing at Aso in Wade's system, at least as far as I understand from what I've heard.

I think Kareem will be BETTER but that ain't saying much.
I think he might need to rotate to one of the safety positions

QUESTION: Does safety require more or less technique than cornerback.
I always thought of Safeties as helpers. Plugging the holes in the defense.
I think Kareem may do better . . . . with out a specific person to be responsible for . . . more of an area.

The 142 number includes benefits. The real cap number is $120.375 million for salary and bonuses. You can go to nfllabor.com and read the bullet points of the deal.

    This part is interesting:

Don't understand how it works. Maybe there is $6.5 million the Texans could play with on veteran salaries to get extra money for free agency?

It looks like it is a one year optional amount of money that teams can spend to help keep their teams together, instead of having to lose a ton of players due to the drop-off in the salary cap.

Minimum payroll will be 89% this year but continually work its way up.

Tampa absolutely will be handing out a few heavily front loaded contracts this year. They could be killer.

I doubt it, especially since it cuts into your cap number the next year. Not knowing more, my first thought is that the over-cap teams like Dallas, Indy, and Pittsburgh might need to use it to get kosher for this season.

Given how everything is falling into place, I just think Asomugha to Tampa Bay just makes way too much sense.
