The difference between "allstar caliber" and "allstar":

Allstar caliber is talking about production and helping the team. There are guys who help their team just as much as guys who get voted in but have never made an allstar team.

Allstar is talking about a popularity contest for your average fans who value nothing higher than flashy dunks and crossover dribbles. There are plenty of actual "allstars" who are average players.

Now that I have defended Kevin Martin sufficiently. I would take Steve Francis over him still. The reason is I liked to watch Steve Francis play and he had heart. He also was good enough to bring you Tmac. Obviously most people dont think enough of Martin to gain you the league leading scorer. Heck people dont want to even give us Danny Granger for him. That either means Morey sucks as a GM or Steve Francis was worth more.

Its all about dunking. If Kevin martin could dunk on people like Seteve Francis he would be overrated and worth more to people in their minds.

    The truth doesn't make sense?

Lowry had a good year, let's hope he keeps getting better, but he is nowhere near all star caliber, he is a good solid floor general for sure, let's see if he can make the next leap forward.

Seems folks are overestimating him based on a small sample size, something i made the mistake of doing with Brooks.

exactly......"Stars" play in the game in Febuary. All the fans vote in the starters and the coaches vote for the reserves. If we say Lowry is a "star," then so is every other veteran starter in the league. Its plenty of players that perform well in great roles for their individual teams, but I thought national recognition is the criteria to be called a "star"....

Lowry is nice.....but he just Local....

Kevin Martin, Kyle Lowry, and Luis Scola are all as good or better than Francis.

He only made one all-star game without Yao, and that was because guard competition wasn't as tough in the west.

Just take a look on potential 2012 Draft

    Barnes - franchise wing
    Davis - franchise big
Sullinger - number 1 of 2011 Draft if declared
    Perry Jones - multiple all-star
Gilchrist - Andre Iguodala at worst. Terrence Williams at nightmare
    McAdoo - franchise
    Rivers - multiple all-star
    Beal - multiple all-star
    Miller - multiple all-star

How the hell we shouldn't tank?

    Actually no.

Stevie was overrated a bit but he had a 21+7+6+1.5 season. Something that Kyle will never ever reach

Francis was a stat padder, if Lowry hogged the ball and played as many minutes he could easily be a 18/8/5.

He averaged 16/8/5 per 40 last year, and was getting better as the year went on. All while playing better defense.

    Otis Thorpe - "Star"
    DREAM - "All-Star"

I have nothing but thanks and well wishes for Otis and his loved ones, but, lets not "hope" for a "star". We need an "ALL-STAR" to build around not just a star. Look at the King's at the time we traded for him - before his one time trip to the all-star game as a Rocket. Look at the T-Wolfs with K. Love (all-star game this year after two players dropped out - wow what a nice player though would look good in Rocket red). BUT I would rather have 5 SOILD PLAYERS that play well together than one "star" and one soild player or two and scrubs-(less than C.Bud), IMO. I really enjoyed last season and think this "TEAM" has more to give.

One "all-star" is what is needed nothing more or less
( I make it sound like we can pick on up at a drive-thru )

A poster who used to hate on the mid-90's rockets (who's probably back in one form or the other) and sweat the offensively challenged mid-90's Bulls and Jazz once tried to claim that Otis Thorpe wasn't nearly as effective on offense as Horace Grant. Yes, Horace freaking Grant, who had a career average of 11 ppg, and who never averaged more than 14.8 pp/36 for a single season (OT's career average was 16 pp/36 and had a 20 ppg and /36 season)

Also, the year Dream was out cause Cartwright hit him in the eye (Cause the Bulls were getting whipped by the Rockets), Otis Thorpe and Kenny Smith pick and roll was unstoppable . They put in China's favorite Larry Smith at Center and the Rockets had a big winning streak and Don Chaney won coach of the year.

And you forgot to mention he played with 2 very efficient scorers besides him (Martin and Scola), under one of the best offensive coaches in the league.

While Stevie has his flaws, as a Rocket, he was always defended as the #1 perimeter player on our team, not so for Lowry.
