That's not what he said to him though. I can't remember exactly what it was, but I'm sure it is podcast if you are interested in looking. It wasn't about him telling Green he was washed up.
The problem would be the contract he is seeking. Its true that he is an upgrade, but at what cost? That should be taken into consideration. I'd rather pay 5 mil a year for Weddle than 3 mil a year for Sensabaugh.
No, I'm b****ing about something that has happened over and over with this organization. I'm expressing pre-concern that they're still going that route. I haven't and won't b**** about Sensabaugh. I wouldn't even be posting about this except that a couple overly-eager folks decided to jump the gun, misinterpret what I said this morning, and "call me out" for not liking the idea of Sensabaugh.
I invite you to find a single post in which I've tried to paint this team - at any point in its history - as a perennial playoff contender. Or, for that matter, where I've said fans have no right to complain. Do you see how extreme you're being? I was among the first to recognize that this playoff drought extends well beyond 2002; all the way back to 1994, in fact. I wrote about that constantly on my old site. So I absolutely understand the frustration and impatience and I don't believe I've ever begrudged people for feeling that way. It's the relentlessness of it that rubs me the wrong way. This issue here is a prime example: I'm merely suggesting that bringing in "your" guys is a common practice among - well, every business institution in existence. This phenomenon is not unique to the Texans, nor should it instantly be cause for rancor. It makes sense, assuming Sensabugh (who I know nothing about) is still a productive player. They have a shortended offseason, a new system to learn... Pretty benign, middle of the road stuff, IMO. Now contrast that with everyone's reaction to the news, how they draw made-up conclusions ("They're not even meeting with other players!"), get made about stuff that hasn't even happened yet ("They're not signing anyone else!") and, of course, accuse me of running a Texan propaganda machine when I don't join the mob and call for everyone to be burned alive. It's silly.
In DBs alone, they could have taken: Darrelle Revis, Leon Hall, Michael Griffin, Aaron Ross, Eric Weddle, Brandon Meriweather... They did not *have* to take the gamble on a 19 year old DT (especially when they needed pass rushing help *immediately*) They did a poor job of evaluating talent that draft and they got burned. You can't pretty this one up, they blew it. (And major lulz @ a 30 year old, 10-year-vet Ahman Green being "the answer"... anybody who thought that needs to give up football)
It's sad what this team has done to us. We should all be sitting around a campfire telling stories of Houston football glory while we belly laugh remembering how awesome it was to watch our team dominate in the playoffs. Instead some of us get mad about everything we hear about the team because we see it as further proof of their continued incompetence and a few of us defend them to the death despite their incompetence, always seeing the rising sun on the horizon.
The problem is that these decision makers shouldn't be making the decisions anymore. That's why you have second-guessing of all of the decisions.
LOL Exactly. They make some of the same type of stupid decisions over and over and this year we are told to wait until they make them to be skeptical. LOL
All true. I agree with every word (minus the vitriol). Having said that... he also works with his dad....bang, Kyle Shannahan gets a coordinator job and quickly establishes himself as one of the top offensive minds in football. That network also landed us David Gibbs' dad, btw, who I think helped set in motion turning around what had been a year-after-year disaster of an OL into a pretty stable component of this team. At the same time, Kubiak went outside his sytem, sources, et al, and made a big move to bring in Schaub. That's been a decent pick-up. I know Joshfast and others will fire up the "Ric/Texan propaganda" posts - but I'm merely suggesting it isn't 100% horrible and there *are* flip-sides and legitimate "yeah, but"s....
The decision makers that traded for Matt Schaub, drafted Mario Williams, DeMeco Ryans, Owen Daniels, Brian Cushing, signed Arian Foster, Vonta Leach... *those* decision makers? We don't want them making *any*more decisions?
That's (mostly) fair - I'm only attempting to balance out what is an obviously slanted perspective. See... I'll readily admit: You're right. They've made some terrible decisions. I can list a bunch of those, too. But unlike far too many fans, I don't have any hesitation to give credit where credit is due. Is it 100% great? Nope. It's just not 100% awful. More like 53/47......ish.
There's a difference between decision makers who acquire talent and decision makers who decide what happens on the field. From a talent point of view, this team should have been in the playoffs at least a couple of times.
You didn't...you DIDN'T go there...did you? Should we setup two columns and list the good decisions and the bad ones and then see whose piss made it the farthest? Or you want to go ahead and admit your Texan loving kidneys can't put out that much force...
all that's great. i'm just tired of hearing about it. tired of hearing about half-victories and how "close" we are. you either win...or you do not win. they were 6-10 last season with all that incredible talent you pointed to. great.
I can think of one season where they had a real shot at the playoffs that you can look back and say "this game, this game and this game they made bad decisions that cost them." What do you mean by "at least a couple of times"? Certainly you don't think Kubiak's teams have been a playoff deserving team the last two years? Three of his years here?
except, on this team, the guy who has had the biggest say in talent acquisition is the same guy who's been coaching them on the field.
I'm not the one picking a fight, justtxyank. Again, nowhere will you find a post in which I pretend everything is just dandy and, man! Isn't this team SUPERDUPERGREAT?!?!?! They've made collosal mistakes. I don't understand why repeated posts detailing those mistakes is perfectly acceptable but pointing out some of the successes as a means to balance out the overwheming negativity isn't. It's not all black or white. They can be good and bad. I would say this regime is hitting... I don't know - .500-ish. I mean, put it this way: If they fired Smith/Kubiak later today, there would be a long and distinguished list of people champing at the bit to replace them because there are a lot of great pieces in place.
Don't get your pants in a wad Ric. I was under the impression that using such an outlandish post like I did that my sense of levity would be conveyed.
