I'm sorry, but if genetics were such a huge factor, why the f*** are so many people fat now as opposed to twenty, fifty, a hundred years ago?

claiming genetics is a cop-out, obviously genetics plays a part, but it's nowhere close to the reason why most people are fat.

I don't judge fat people, we all have our personal foibles, but let's be honest here.

Because the healthy, athletic people were wiped out by wars and, later, sexually transmitted diseases....and the remaining ones who worry about their fit bods,,, don't want to get preggers.

    You sound offended

I might be callous but I'm definitely not misinformed, I know a lot about obesity.

Can a doctor perscribe a drug for a fat related disease? If you had to warn someone they were too fat for their own health and risking their life against death, would you tell them...in public? I have seen advertisements for weight loss pills, what weight is it that someone would lose using a weight loss pill?

I agree. I forgot were i read that the percentage of the population that genuinely has a genetic/thyroid condition is somewhere in the 5%-1%.

That doesn't explain the other 55% that can't put the cheese burger down. I don't care how the pro fatties try to spin it, what you put into your body is one of the few things in life that we have complete and total control over.

So how did it go with the girl at work you mentioned in the opening post who said you were being inappropriate discussing this topic in public. I think you might have blown it with her. Even friendzone is probably no longer a possibility, much less asking her on a date. You're having a bad year with the babes it seems, based on your recent other two threads.

I sound offended? That must be because I am. (Not especially overweight myself though at 42 yrs, 6 ft and 175 lb.)

You are definitely callous and you are very definitely misinformed.

we're fat because we consume a ridiculous amount of sugar and refined carbs vs. 50 years ago.

this thread isn't about why people are fat. it's about whether it's ok to call them out on it. because apparently, the TS is perfect.

I wasn't bashing fat people in my original post, I was just replying to that other post about sensitive people. Then I said it is wrong for people to be mean to others for things they can't control. Then you got offended and started arguing about obesity. I know there are a million factors and reasons for obesity, but I believe choice plays a huge factor unlike baldness, etc... I wasn't trying to offend anyone or start another obesity argument

Produce less than the rest of us? In a corporate, sedentary, service and information based economy?
