Doesn't surprise me, the media hates Houston. Am I right?

Those are the hospitals that are basically associated with the top med schools...I think Baylor might be the highest ranked in Texas and it's in the 20's in the rankings.

Well to be fair if you look at the rankings by specialty, MD Anderson is No.1 for Cancer treatment, Texas Heart Inst. at St. Luke's is no.4 for Cardiology, MD Anderson no.6 for Ear, Nose and Throat, MD Anderson again no.6 for Gynecology, Menninger Clinic no.5 for Psychiatry, Memorial Hermann no.4 for Rehabilitation, MD Anderson no.10 for Urology.

And Texas Children's is ranked top 10 in just about everything.

yeah, i thought that listing was strange too considering the elite specialization the med center has. But like most of these lists, often times the criteria aren't that accurate.

The ranking system they used ranks each hospitla on 16+ different specialties. Data would be skewed towards well-rounded, educational super facilities and against focused, specialized institutions like MD Anderson.

MD Anderson rocks. My girlfriend works for them, and I can't say enough good things about that organization. Free cancer screenings ftw.

This - it's looking for "jack of all trades" individual hospitals.

The TMC is a conglomerate of serious specialty hospitals (MDACC, TCH) and two strong "general" ones (StL, Methodist). Her/Memorial not far behind, and then you've got Ben Taub as a leader in gang warfare medicine.

Exactly. When you have that big a concentration of hospitals, they're going to tend to specialize in certain things. If you had one (or multiple) hospital, in that congested of an area, on this list, chances are, there would be other hospitals that were ceasing to exist.

my distant cousin (actually didn't know him till college) is a trauma surgeon at boston general, number two on the list. he graduated chem e at ut and went john hospkins med school. he's an awesome guy, did volunteer work in Haiti after quake and volunteered for two years in africa

and his first cousin (who's also a distant relative) is the guy who got shot by the bellaire police officer.

sorry, i would have no where else to mention that on this site.
