I don't like valet parking. One, I don't like tipping and figuring out how much to tip. I also don't like not knowing where my car is at or being able to easily grab something out of it. I don't like having to wait for my car to be delivered. And, I find the social dynamic with valets to be awkward, harkening back to some weird English caste system with servants who aren't acknowledged though they're given access to your personal space. Finally -- though it's not an issue for me anymore -- my old car had a kill switch that I'd always have to explain to the valet so he'd be able to retrieve the car.

I'd rather park a block away and walk it then give my keys to a valet (which is usually possible in Houston, but probably not so much in places like NYC). But, probably other people like valet service. Just wondering why anyone would.

I do not like anyone driving my car but like you said in Houston it is really not a problem.

I don't like people valet parking my car. I feel more comfortable parking it myself and keeping the keys. I will offer to pay $5 bucks if I can just park it myself and keep the keys.

Girls love valets. They do not like walking to the restaurant in high heels; or for shows, eg., walking through Wortham Center's garage hell with it's 20 minute traffic jam to get out. If your girl is going to spend 1-2 hours getting ready for you, get her valet service, you cheap bastid.

I'll drop her ass off and park it myself. She can have my drink ordered by the time I get up there.

Do not leave girls, who just spent over an hour getting dolled up, unattended at a restaurant bar while you are doing a cheap bastid errand.

I also can't stand the idea that I need to tip a bellman for opening a door, or picking up my bag and taking it 5 feet.

lol I don't date exclusively and I don't like girls who wear a lot of makeup so not a problem. But I was still joking and I would not do that unless I know the girl is cool like that.

    Don't like it at all.

I did it for a NYE gig a few years ago and ended up waiting an hour in line with a bunch of drunks when all I wanted was to get the eff out of there.

Now I always scope out where I'm going to park via google maps satellite view before playing anywhere that offers it.

This thread wasn't merely idle chatter. Wife is thinking about renting a space for her business but it is pretty constrained on parking. The owner is suggesting valet service as a solution, and I'm trying to think of how much of a handicap on the business that might be. If the customers were all like me, it'd be suicide, but they're not like me. Tend to be young professionals on dates. So maybe it'd work. Still, some place with adequate parking would probably work better.

Don't use it unless it is required.

Its extremely rare for me to valet if I am by myself, if I am on a date or something I am more likely to but it really depends on the place. If its somewhere where I know there is ample parking I will ask her if its ok to park but if its a place where I know parking is a total b**** then I'll valet and save the time and hassle. If I am on a date I would rather pay the 5 bucks to valet park than waste 15-30 minutes trying to find a spot then walking 1/4 mile or so to the restaurant etc.

what I hate the most is having to go through a parking garage and not find a single spot but then seeing about 50 open spots in the valet only parking.
