I think he's actually there to translate for English media outlets. But Yao's been doing interviews forever in English though so I think it's really just out of friendship. They started the journey together and they are ending it together. Nice move by Yao.

I was really sad watching this too. We'll miss you Yao. Hope to see you at some future Rockets games to give you the standing O that you deserve and never got with a farewell tour.

Just watching the post press conference interview on CCTV. Interesting to learn that Yao was told by his doctor that if he continued to play basketball he would not be able to walk by the time he's 50...so sad.

I just watched the presscon on rockets.com. Wow! Truly moving

"Life is my guide; I'm just following how life leads me.... Playing basketball is just a part of that."

Inspiring and dignifying. Aging players should all take a page from him. Lebron's global brand? Phew! Yao is the true global brand.

When he spoke in English, he spoke just to Houston, not to the NBA. But particularly to speak to Houston fans, "I will forever be a Houstonian."

Stern is making sure Yao continues to help the NBA in China, and Yao is excited to help the Shanghai Sharks and the Chinese basketball team become better.
