    I saw Jack Kennedy the day before he was killed, standing within 20 feet of him as the motorcade came down Broadway Blvd. on the way to the political events that were scheduled. Jackie, LBJ and Lady Bird, John and Mrs. Connolly, and Senator Ralph Yarborough, an old fashioned New Deal liberal Democrat (yes, Texas could still produce them back then), all in open convertible limos.

    From what I remember of the geography, JFK is shot just before the car starts pulling out of the downtown area where he'd have crowds to wave to. Probably JFK's car is about to start driving too fast for the guys on foot to keep up, so they're all getting ready to get into cars to drive with the motorcade. I don't think it's very mysterious.

    As for Castro, I wouldn't be too surprised if it was him. He'd be repaying Kennedy for trying to have him killed on more than one occassion. That'd make a lot more sense than some kind of LBJ conspiracy.

    60's were a crazy time. JFK, Bobby, Martin Luther King all getting gunned down within a few short years. Imagine assassinations today of people of that political caliber all on one side of the political fence. It's crazy.

    I was told this by a former employer who's Cuban and is influential in the Cuban community here in Houston and in Miami. He helps immigrants locate, find jobs and gain citizenship. At the time I thought yeah, like we'd let him get away with that. But as time unfolds it makes sense.

    He also did at least one big political dinner/speech while he was in town. It's hard to describe just how exciting it was to see Kennedy back then. Did you see his speech the year before at Rice Stadium? I went, and he had the hair on the back of my neck standing on end. No one in American politics could give a speech like Jack Kennedy.
