On the second video, at 0:38-0:39, you can see the ball's trajectory change from going down to up after it passes Wambach. They showed other angles during the game that made it more clear.
It's even more obvious in the first video. At 0:19 is when the deflection happens. The ball looked like it would've gone into the side net but once it hits Wambach, it goes into the middle of the back net.
I wouldn't necessarily say it was gonna go in. With the original direction, it would've taken a longer path and had less of an angle to get into the goal. Hope Solo could've had a chance to save it. The deflection giving the ball a different trajactory closer to the goal and a wider window made it monumentally harder to save.
ya i think solo would have got a chance to save it with her left arm in the original path...but the sudden turn caught her off guard.
The SportsNation poll today asked if they think PKs should be taken out of the game. 37% said it was a bad way to decide the winner. It's sad to see that many people think that.
I think there should be no PK for the Final. Quarter and Semi Final fine. I would preferred sudden death OT and the next goal win it all.
I thought the old rules of two 15 minute OTs with golden goal and PKs if still tied was fine. They changed it a couple years back to what it is now.
That was an impressive goal, but not as good as the Essien goal, his goal was literally a laser shot. That goal was more finesse, though impressive nonetheless.
i liked this goal <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/DfXcZk-TkZM?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/DfXcZk-TkZM?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>
Golden Goal was just an experiment started at the 1996 Euros (actually at the U20 world cup 1993), but that was never used at a world cup. It's been like it is now at international competitions since the Euro 1976 (as far as I remember - only penalty shoot-out Germany lost at a major international competition). Golden Goal was abolished in 2004.
Problem with Men's Tennis is you have like 5-6 peepz that win all the high stacked tournaments, see Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Roddick,... Besides Nadal-Federer there's no real matchup that gets you excited. Now in Women's Tennis, you have big upsets every tournament cause the talent is more similiar and there's no one that clearly dominates the court. Imo it's refreshing and has the better matchups/stories.
Roddick can't win s**t and Venus and Serena win pretty much everything (save the last couple years because of injury) in the women's game coming off the couch with Cheeto residue on their fingers.
not true.. VEnus and Serena only had a short run. AFter that you have quite a handful of players that have won. Just look at that girl from China who recently won the French Open. Womens tennis is definitely a lot less predictable than Mens tennis which makes it more interesting.
At the end of the day, happy for Japan, but the womans' team choked, they gakked it up..... Nothing else to it really. DD
I see it more of them overachieving than choking. There are no sure wins in soccer. They were outplayed by Brazil and France and still managed to scrape by with wins. They played a great first half and a sloppy second half against Japan. In the end, the better team won.
