Francis had superstar talent and athletic ability.

But yes, in the end I'd take Lowry.

If you're using arbitrary intangible criteria like that....so is Shane Battier - but Francis, in his prime (2001-2003) was significantly more productive on the court than either, with both higher efficiency and higher usage.

It's not even close, actually. You can argue that Lowry's defensive prowess evens it out somewhat, but the productivity gap between Francis in say, 2001 or 2003 and Lowry last year is substantial.

If you count Yao Ming for the past two year then I think Calvin Murphy that year before Ralph should count too.

I feel that Lowry should not be penalized because he actually knows how to run an offense. That should be a positive in my humble opinion.

i would say the last two years we had no star - sure Yao was part of the roster but he had zero impact on the court.

oh and yeah francis was better than lowry in those early years he was a threat constantly - lowry is a better pg to have to run a proper system but if you need to just get a shot off and have 24 seconds left on the shot clock francis will get a shot up...too bad he had a drinking problem and wasnt the smartest basketball player francis could have been a 'franchise' type player

So what if they win a close game? Does that count as almost losing?

Kyle Lowry averages significantly more points per dribble than Francis did.

I'm sure that's one of Morey's advanced stats.

Maybe Donuts will become our next star. Or more realistically, the next Bargnani, impact wise.

Well by some measures Bargnani is a net negative, so I hope not.

I love Lowry but Francis in his prime is just on another level. Lowry is a damn good player but he was never looked at as a potential superstar. Francis was a beast of an athlete in his prime whose out of this world talent needed to harnessed & the Rockets never did. They let him do whatever he wanted. That was the biggest issue with that team. He and Cuttino had too much freedom. But hey together they did fetch us T-Mac.

That, and have a fairy tale story that Stern thinks would be complete with the first pick.

The difference is that Francis was stupid, and Lowry is smart, Lowry will be able to maximize his talent while Francis got to watch his fade, and was too dumb to figure out why it was fading.

For some time now- The "Superstar" has been our collective team.

    - We are amongst the top team ball playing franchises in the league.
    - 5 strong is better than 2 Superstars.
    - everyone on this team has unique key strengths both physically and statistically, and when combined , are unstoppable.

And this translates to what when you're making return visits to the #14 spot in the Lottery?

Sorry to disagree...but this collection of overachievers has needed a talent infusion for a good while now.

Kyle Lowry is better than Francis? WTF?

Lowry isn't 1/2 of what Francis was. For all his flaws, he was a significantly better player.

Francis never played under Adelman. Rudy gave him a lot of freedom to freelance, and JVG always wanted his best player to control everything.

Adelman has made Brooks and Lowry better than they actually are offensively. Bobby Jackson and Mike Bibby were also ballers under Adelman. Hell he made Chuck Hayes a decent offensive player now.

Funny how half a season of good play has Lowry > Francis. SMH.
