Why? Makes no sense. There may never be a better time to trade him than now and nothing should be of higher priority than building for the future. Even if every prospect we get back ends up not panning out, it's worth the chance. There is no good baseball reason to keep Hunter Pence.
Can someone explain why after 2 innings, with 3 arms on the bench, Mills brings Melancon out for a 3rd inning?
That may have been Q's best AB of his life. Worked the count deep, got a pitch to hit, stayed back on it and knocked it out the other way.
Astros still haven't won a series since they were in LA. For the record, that happened exactly one month ago.
In Mills defense, Melancon only threw like 20 pitches the first two innings so should have been okay even though he pitched last night. Still if things continue, no way Brad Mills can be the manager of this team next year if they lose 100 plus games.
If Mills is jettisoned, I feel sorry for whoever comes in his place. For avoiding losing 100+ games next year isnt going to be easy.
Losing 100 games in big league season is real hard. You have to suck real bad. With that being said, this team has barely any prospects. I am not buying the hype for some of the prospects at AA other than Jose Altuve.
After today's loss, our projection for the year is 53/109. Im just not seeing a 10 game improvement next year.
Wandy and Brett sure picked a horrible time to go through bad stretches although both had nice strikeout games which is always important. If they put out this product again next season, Ed Wade is still general manager and Tal is still around. Neither is likely and thus a completely different team can be expected. Either way, next season is not relevant in the big picture, it might be interesting to have the #1 pick back to back years and spring board off that.
You guys do realize that Mills was ejected in the 2nd inning for arguing balls and strikes. Not sure who was managing at the end, but it wasn't Mills. I don't see how any other manager could get much more (or less) out of this team. They're just bad, bad, bad... top to bottom.
I don't think there's any way they can justify canning Mills. Casey Stengel wouldn't have done any better with this group.
