When talking about underrated players, I find it’s usually a relatively loose term. Everyone has their own idea of who they think is truly underrated. Well I looked it up and Webster defines it simply as underestimating one’s ability. This befuddled me, for now I had to rethink what I really meant when I said underrated. For example, if someone were to usually ask me whom do I think is underrated in the NBA, I’d most likely respond with someone like Monta Ellis, or Stephen Jackson, Al Jefferson etc etc…but the thing about that is I don’t underestimate their abilities at all. Good players get stuck in crappy situations all the time, whether it stems from their team that they’re one or personal reasons. I also get that the all-star weekend event is a popularity contest and not always the most deserving get to join. So check it out, I decided to assemble a team of under the radar players. To me, “under the radar players” are guys who go around the league fairly unnoticed, but at the same time contribute immensely to their team’s success (if at all possible). Most of them aren't high salary players either. PG - Jeff Teague/Brandon Jennings SG - Nick Young/Louis Williams/James Harden SF - Wilson Chandler/Demar Derozen PF - Serge Ibaka/Taj Gipson C - Andrew Bogut/Nene Hilario It got a wee bite more hard as I got to the front court players, especially the centers. There aren’t that many great centers anyway, let alone in the shadow ones. What yall think?
I like your list, only one i don't agree with is Nene (who is considered a top 5 centre so is widely rated) and Jennings (OVERRATED) PG:Lowry, Hinrich SG:Wes Matthews, Courtney Lee SFaul George, Wilson Chandler PF: Udonis Haslem Taj Gibson C: Roy Hibbert, Chuck Hayes *sorry if it's rocket bias, couldn't help it
good call on paul george. he was my sleeper last year. I guess what you could say i was getting at was that I wanted to construct a team of so called "nobodies" who could compete on a nightly basis with most teams in the league.
I agree most with W Chandler, a gentleman who could bring his talents to the Toy Shop, as far as I'm concerned. I just don't see Jennings, Harden, Serge, Bogut or Nene, especially Nene, as underrated.
Yes! Eric Gordon can flat out BALL. Daren Collison is a often forgot about point guard. Once he got traded to the Pacers people seemed to forget that he existed.
PG: Kyle Lowry / Jrue Holiday SG: Eric Gordon / James Harden SF: Wilson Chandler / Demar Derozan PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Zach Randolph C: Andrew Bogut / Roy Hibbert
How everyone isn't putting Chuck Hayes on their list is beyond me. No one has a higher effectiveness to rating ratio at the center position.
He was talking about "under the radar" players. Not necessarily underrated players. We looking at players that dont get recognition for what they do on the court. Not players that are better than what they are recognized for. Players under the Radar: Kyle Lowry Chuck Hayes Wesley Matthews Dorrell Wright Drew Holiday Wilson Chandler Nick Young Eric Gordon Paul George Ty Lawson Thaddeus Young Courtney Lee Ect. Underrated Players Marcus Thorton Lamarcus Aldridge Andrew Bogut Roy Hibbert Taj Gibson James Harden Ect.
Again, I think that's a good list. I'll make second team of sorts. PG: Jrue Holiday Raymond Felton(good move by the Blazers) Ramon Sessions (How come Cleveland didn't feel comfortable with him running point ... I'm still skeptical about Kyrie Irving). Eric Maynor Someone's already mentioned Lowry. SG : Aron Affalo Courtney Lee James Harden (up until the playoffs) SF - The older version of Grant Hill (38 year old player as one of the best defenders in the NBA, especially one with an injury history like Hill) Thaddeus Young, he could better. PF - JJ Hickson (The Cavs screwed up on this one) the Future Mr. Kardashian, Kris Humphries, he's actually a decent power forward. Chuck Hayes, he hasn't made one defensive team in his career.
