kubos, or kata rubata has authentic ramen. they are japanese owned and run which is very rare in houston.
Japanese Restaurants Unofficial rundown of Houston Japanese Restaurants. Best Ramen in Town: Nippon on Montrose (Real Japanese Owners, Overpriced but good) Approx $9 a bowl Best place for Upscale: Uptown Sushi Different stores use different grades of fish. Uptown imports fish from around the world to ensure they have fish from locales that are known for their fish. Other expensive places use lower grades of fish (graded A-C or worse as far as I know) and still sell it at high prices. Best place for a deal Oishii Oishi has excellent happy hour specials, very cheap but you can expect some crowds and a wait during busy hours. I will update this with more later when I have time.
Best tonkotsu ramen I've had so far is at Teppay. It'll cost you $13 but I think it's the best in Houston and they are actually Japanese owned. I've also had the tonkotsu ramen at Aka, Umai, and Kubo's but Teppay has the best one by far.
I grew up next to an Asian neighbor. They seemed to replace their German Shepherds on an annual basis.
AKA Sushi, on West Alabama just east of Kirby. Best sushi/sake happy hour in town...they do ramen and udon too.
