I don't frown upon it. I'd be mad if they were going easy on me for the sake of me being a girl. Just don't call a foul on me when I hit you pretty hard on your way to the basket on the next play to retaliate.

I disagree with this one. People on the court act like Mutombo as if they've never fouled anyone in their lives. You got to call that if you get fouled. The honor code is respecting the foul call. The flip side of the code is you don't call cheap fouls constantly.

    This.

I usually say "I got him" If I foul somebody. But when I get hit... others aren't always so inclined to say they fouled even if it's fairly obvious.

You've got to call your **** and if they don't respect it then just shoot for it.

What are all these rules about "not D-ing up" or "playing too hard"? Honestly, I know I am 25, 5'8" and 180lbs, and I know I play kids half my size but that doesn't mean I am going to "take it easy" or "play soft". Now before you get angry and call me a monster for beating up 13 year old kids, I don't do that, and yes I know how to play with the kids so that it is "fun" for the both of us.

Some of the kids are ridiculously tall. There is an 8th grader I play against who is already 6'1", if anybody needs to take it easy it's him.

#6. Don't check your cellphone during the middle of a game.
#5. Don't leave your gym bag or other items in the court of play.
#4. Don't be a r****d and act like you don't know how to use a screen or pass the ball off once you've been triple teamed at the basket.
#3. Even if the kid is half your size, if he continues to play basketball, unless he grows into a 7' 275lb beast, he will always be playing people half his size, a foot taller, etc.
#2. Similar to #3, there is nothing wrong with bumping, blocking, stealing, charging, etc on a female player. They ought to know the rules.
#1. Play hard and have fun. Don't just settle for jumpers, be creative and attack the basket, get your teamates involved. Fight for every rebound and loose ball. Even if it is just a pick-up game it obviously means something to you to take an hour or so of your time to play the game. No regrets.

    PS.

Don't get mad because somebody is out hustling you.

-Running Shoes are not allowed in pick up games.*

*An expection to the rule can be made if you fit the following criteria:
    -White
    -Muscular
    -Hustle Player**

**Bad shots and dribbling are frowned upon.

I've flopped before during games where there is a ref. I like to call it selling a charge. It usually happens when the person I'm guarding consistently plays dirty under the ref's nose. I think I did it years ago at a UH intramural game.

As for the "outhustle" thing. I think it really depends on the game and situation. If it's just a friendly pick up between friends where we're all having fun then a NCAA level type giant shows up and takes it too seriously, that's where it gets too far. That's just being an ass.

This happened to me about 10 years ago. It forever taught me in my opinion, the only # 1 greatest unwritten basketball rule.

1.) Let's all have fun and be happy.

(Hmm, I take charges in pickup games. Else they just keep driving as hard as possible... I leave the call up to them though. A lot of people will call it on themselves.)

Blocking girls is weak unless she played in HS (somewhat weak) or college.

No. Absolutely not. I assume you don't play with dozens of different ppl each week. Nor go outside your comfort zone and go to different neighborhoods that you don't know. The way you deal with this is to say, "Dude, wtf. You're not going to call that?" you treat them as an official, and let their decision stand...but make a point. that's it. that's all you can do. Then shut up and inbounds the freaking basketball, because no one else on the court gives a **** that you got fouled, including your teammates.

If you do more....If you call a foul on them, you've cross the line of no return. You create a gray area. Opinions and such...and arguing. You have to draw the line. You CANNOT call fouls on your opponent. It ends up in a bunch of bickering and fighting, when in the end, you just want to play ball.

Hell, I always brought the best ball to the court. We always...no matter what part of Houston I went to...we always played with one of my balls. When fights broke out, I took my balls and left.

My balls are meant for better things.

If I'm posting you up under the basket you can hold your ground but you cant push as hard as you can into my back. Even if you're smaller. I have to explain this all the time.

Also don't follow basketball players back to their house and try to get pics with them and their family.

Don't play full court defense when you repeatedly get blown by...it's just annoying. I don't want to have to drive in for a layup or dish it off to a teammate every time. If it keeps up I Steve Nash it and drive to the hoop only to dribble it back out.

    If you can't shoot, pass.

    If you can't pass, defend.

If you can't defend, box out.

If you can't box out, set a pick.

If you can't set a pick, play tennis.
