Assuming you shop Amazon frequently. I order just a few times, and usually I am able to wait for the free shipping, which has never taken more than a week for me.
I do order from their frequently so the cost is justified. This year alone I have ordered something about twice per month and all of those items have shipped 2 day for free and no tax.
You can get prime free for three months by claiming you are a Amazon "mom". Its available for dads, aunts, grandparents also(the whole discrimination thing). http://www.amazon.com/gp/mom/signup/info
Heck yes Prime is worth $79, easily. Easiest Christmas shopping ever- order item, $4 for gift wrap, ship directly to them. Think of all of the money in fuel you save by shopping online. I saw a graphic the other day that Amazon was on average 19% cheaper than Walmart. And that doesn't factor in gas cost.
I'm with those who say Prime is well worth the $80 yearly price. Getting everything delivered to your home 2 days after ordering is great. I used to hate having to wait a week to receive the items I purchased online, it was torture. But I do find myself buying everything from there now, it is almost too convienient for my wallet.
Here in Germany I get my order in two days, when orderin in the morning sometimes it even comes the next day.
If you are a student you can get Prime free for one year. I had it free last year and just reupped it this morning for 1/2 price - so I'm paying $40 for the next fiscal year.
I fully understand what you are saying. I agree. They do sit on the order a few extra days before shipping. But its free. So ether pay or dont let it bother you. Really, they want you to pay.
I don't think I buy more stuff now than before, but since getting Prime I tend to check to see if Amazon sells what I'm looking for first.
Hmmm, seems like almost everything I buy from Amazon is shipped directly from some other company. Now wondering if it would be worth it or not. I guess I'll have to go back and check my past orders to see what the percentage is.
lol, my first order from amazon arrived a day early... my 2nd item arrived 'on time' and i was furious lol
usually when you buy anything from amazon there will be an icon indicating if the item is Prime Eligible i would say like a good 70-75% or so of their items are (maybe more) There are times too that even if a product is not sold by Amazon LLC the item can still be eligible for Prime shipment because of a partnership the third party seller has with Amazon.
Again, ordered free yesterday (3pm) and it got shipped this evening, will arrive tommorrow. German Amazon is fast as hell, feel sorry for you guys.
I love Amazon's subscribe and save policy. I have a 60-day supply of Green Vibrance shipped to me for $47 every two months...that's a full $20 less than other sites and $40 less than in the stores.
The only thing you have to worry about on Amazon is that even with Prime there have been times I've found stuff cheaper at places like the local Walmart than getting it from Amazon. Amazon even sometimes has "deals of the day" that are barely even pennies cheaper than what Walmart would sell them for (which makes me wonder how much more expensive they are regularly). In other words, don't just buy it because you're saving on tax and have free 2-day shipping. You may be paying more despite those perks.
