Astros sign Frederick Serrano According to the Astros' Transaction page, the Astros signed 16-year old 6'2" 180lb outfielder Frederick Serrano and assigned him to the DSL.
Sorry for the delay. J.B. Shuck walked in his only plate appearance at the Triple-A All-Star Game as the PCL lost 3-0 to the International League. The PCL only had 3 hits in the game. Corpus had the night off. They'll be in Frisco to begin a series tonight. Lancaster lost 7-6 to High Desert. Allowing 5 runs in the 1st doomed the Jethawks. Jonathan Meyer led the way, going 2-5 with an RBI and scoring twice. Jake Buchanan went 7 2/3, allowing 6 runs (thankfully, only 1 was earned) on 9 hits (1 homer), walking 2 and fanning 7. David Berner allowed a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 9th to get the loss. Lexington split a doubleheader with Savannah, winning 2-0 in Game 1 and losing 7-3 in Game 2. Telvin Nash walked off with a 2-run homer in game 1, his 7th. It was a game where the Legends were held to 3 hits. Alex Sogard shut out the Sand Gnats, allowing 6 hits and fanning 7 in 6 shutout innings. Jorge De Leon pitched a perfect 7th for the victory. In Game 2, the Legends attempted a rally in the 7th, but the 7-0 hole was too much to overcome. Enrique Hernandez hit a 2-run homer, his 2nd. Delino DeShields drove in the other run. His average is .208. Murilo Gouvea pitched 3 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 4. David Martinez allowed 3 unearned runs for the loss. Tri-City took the series opener 5-4 over Batavia, as Kyle Hallock shut down the Muckdogs for 6 innings. He only allowed 2 hits in this start, walking 3 and striking out 4. Matt Duffy had a 2-run double. The ValleyCats nearly blew it, but Mitchell Lambson was able to finish the game to get the save and bail out Ryan Cole. Chase Davidson is beginning to look like the guy the Astros drafted in the 3rd round out of high school. He smacked 2 solo homers, 1 in the 4th and 7th, in Greeneville's 7-4 win over Johnson City. That's 7 on the year for Davidson. No Ovando, as they're being ultra-cautious with him as usual. Jesse Wierzbicki provided 2 RBI of his own, and Jordan Scott, Jose Monzon, and Josh Magee drove in 1 apiece. Danilo Del Rio allowed 4 runs on 5 hits in 4, walking 3 and fanning 2. Zach Dando pitched 4 innings of relief, allowing 1 hit and striking out 5 to get the win. The Gulf Coasters were off. The Academy fell 9-2 to the Rays. Rey Guduan allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits in 3 to get the loss. He walked 2 and fanned 4. Yoel Silfa and Jose Solano scored the only runs.
First thing Nash needs to do is stay healthy. Chase had a pretty crummy resume coming in so I'll take the wait and see approach on him.
I thought Daryle Ward could have been like Ryan Howard... then he actually came up to the big leagues.
That's a great comparison. Daryle Ward in the minors was Ryan Howard before Ryan Howard was Ryan Howard. A big, hulking immobile first baseman who could hit the ball a mile.
Should have traded him when his value was great. Bagwell was gonna be there for 5 more years. Dumb hunsicker... Overvalued ward and Jason lane.
Good to see him getting strikeouts. The thing that is kind of disappointing about both Michael Foltynewicz and Tanner Bushue is both of them are 6' 4" but they have very low strikeout rates even at the low A level. I understand both are young but you would think at the low A level they could get more strikeouts than they are getting.
Yeah, Folty's strikeout ratio is pretty bad but given his age(19), velocity and his 8 strikeout game a few starts ago give me hope. I think a lot of it is just learning how to pitch. I'm actually excited to see what Foltyz, Houser and Vincent Velasquez can do next season.
