Keep in mind that free apps, free tunes and free tethering are stealing.

We get it bobrek. No need to remind us in every single friggin' thread where "pirating" is talked about.

I agree on everything except for the bolded part.

Free tethering is NOT stealing. You pay for data, you should be able to use data. The fact that carriers want you to pay for it twice is complete bull****. If anything, the carriers are the ones who are stealing from you.

Take AT&T for example, these crooks have tiered data plans and they still charge extra for tethering. You are paying for a certain amount of data, you should be allowed to use it how you use it.

And to the people who have unlimited data plans on AT&T/Verizon. You do not truly have unlimited data. Carriers will start throttling it after a certain point making it unusable (usually 5GB).

You are paying for a certain amount of data. You are not stealing.

100% agreed. It's like buying a shirt from a store and that store charging you extra for you letting your brother borrow your shirt.

I have the iphone 4 with OS 4.2.1

so just so that i am clear... to do an untethered jailbreak - i should upagrade to OS 4.3.2 and then follow the instructions for an untethered jailbreak, yes?

hate to sound like a 2-year old - but i am REALLY new to this world...

It seems whack, but if you buy something, and as part of that purchase agree to a terms of purchase agreement, which in your example specifically said you are not allowed to let anyone else use your shirt, then yes, it would be illegal to let your brother wear your shirt, no?

I'm not saying that it's cool, or don't do it... but if those are part of the terms of agreement, then it is what it is.

It's nice and all to call someone and "ole fogey" and get all pissed off about someone consistently reminding you that you're doing something illegal, but maybe the reminding is needed, as those doing it continue to couch it as "pirating" (which it is, which is illegal, doesn't need quotes), and perhaps don't understand how the agreements work? Look, I'm not saying I haven't done it in the past, and won't in the future - including jailbreaking my iphone, which I've thought about doing often, and maybe would if I cared more... but when I did do it, I'd certainly be completely aware that what I was doing was illegal/stealing. Coming from an animal activist perspective, it's similar to when the pound or SPCA says they had to euthanize [x] dogs because of lack of resources. Yes, you may have been forced to do it, but the word euthanize is a feel-good subsititution for kill. Just as the word pirate doesn't sound as bad as steal.

I've written way too much about the above.

back on topic, though... on the 5 line keyboard addition option, my one serious compaint about the keyboard as is, is that I am often hitting space bar, or some other key than I want to, AND the amount of screen space above the keyboard is too small. It would seem like adding a 5th line might help the first issue, but hurt the second issue, no?

The extra line doesn't do a thing for key spacing. If you're fat-fingering it, you're going to fat finger it with an extra line. Also, spellcheck gets confused with the numbers above the keyboard and tries to correct numbers you key in as words. It's not perfect, but I prefer it to toggling between keyboards for numbers.

    @Jay,

I get what you are saying but I still disagree with bobek saying "tethering is stealing." It isn't stealing because I am paying for data and using data how I want to use data. How can you accuse me of stealing something when I am paying for it? It doesn't make sense.

And tethering is not this extra functionality, it is functionality baked into the phone which I purchased (it is something which pretty much every smartphone is capable of doing out of the box, on a debranded Android device, you don't even have to root/jailbreak to utilize it, accessing it is in the menus).

I still don't see the point of paying for something which I already paid for.

Violating agreements, sure. But you can argue that the carriers violated an agreement when they said I was getting "unlimited" data but start throttling it (virtually eliminating it) after 5GB. This whole concept of what I am doing is illegal sounds ridiculous to me. I am paying for data, I am using data how I want to use data. I am refusing to pay twice for that.

Oh well, I don't care. All I know is that the day AT&T sends me a message to stop (or saying they'll raise my rates) is the day I give them the finger. I am not on contract so I really don't give a ****.

I hear ya. It's probably an argument for lawyers, but I'd guess, even if the advertising implied unlimited data, the fine print probably holds court...

... but i'm with you that the fine print is way too fine, nobody can read all of that everytime they want to buy the littlest of things, etc. if it's misleading advertising, i think it is very difficult on the consumer.

If you have an Android phone on AT&T or Verizon, try to look up this app on your phone

    https://market.android.com/details?id=android.tether&feature=search_result

    yup, they filtered it out.
Main reason why carriers dont want you to tether is because of network constraints .
    AT&T mainly.

You guys should read this PDF
    http://www.herosh.com/download/8375719/ATT_T.pdf.html

AT&T admits more than once that they can't handle network traffic, and they're practically begging the FCC to let them purchase Tmobile to handle traffic more efficiently

Most of the good apps are regularly updated. The themes are a different story. It usually says in the description.

Ok, my phone just rebooted and now I have "it Safe Mode" where my time is usually displayed. None of my jailbroken apps are available and my phone is pretty much back to normal. What should I do?

Take it to the Apple Store and tell them you can't get to your jail broken stuff. :)
