More than anyone, Chuck has paid his dues in the NBA. The guy has been working his ass off for the last 6 years without any sense of entitlement, providing elite defense and leadership without ever once complaining and all for 2mil/year. If we didn't have Chuck the last couple years, our record would have been way worse. It's time Chuck gets paid for real. I'd love to have him back, but I don't want to see him get low-balled on the market either. The guy has earned his keep and is worth much more than his 2mil a year.

Chuck wants to stay here. We need defense. KEEP CHUCK!

Morey can look into ways to ease the logjam at the 4.

First way: There might not be much of a season next year anyway.

Second way: Monty will likely play overseas anyway.

Third way: There's always a deal somewhere, although I wonder about Luis Scola's contract in the new CBA; he'd be the guy to move, not because we don't love him, but, well, he's on the wrong side of 30 yet has some value, but at $9 mil per for a couple more years (I won't count the 4th non-guaranteed year), that'd be a millstone for more than a few teams.

I agree, if the Rockets were a contender then you got to re-sign Chuck. Since they're not, I'd rather see them play the young guys like Hill, Thabeet, TWill. If they develop. good. If not, at least they're all on the last year of their contracts. ;)

We don't owe chuck anything we let him start the whole year so he could showcase his talents, and if he wants to walk we should let him. Sad to say he will be on his decline and mchale is not looking at anybody" 6'8 and under".

I want what is best for the Rockets, and unfortunately, we need to develop younger players and signing and playing Chuck, while it helps the team win now, it does not help guys who need court time.

I love what he did, love his work ethos, love his grit, love his hustle, but want him to sign elsewhere for his own good, and the betterment of the teams' future.

Not worried about it. At the same time do not see it happening. This is just rumor and speculation like alot of rumors floated about in the offseason. I am sure Chuck wants to stay and if he left the rebuilding is guaranteed anyways.

No kidding. You could start Jordan Hill at center for 10,000 games and he'd never "develop" into a better player than Chuck Hayes.

Chuck should do what is best for him and his family. I'll support whatever decision he makes. If he feels staying with us is the best move, then I'll be elated. If not, I hope he decides to go to a team that offers him a prominent role, and a great chance of winning.

You are probably right, but you are not guaranteed to be right, nor are you going to be putting in some time for players like PPat who need it as well.

Chuck is a luxury this team doesn't need, nor can it afford, the future is NOT, now, IMO

Thats true. The future is not the current roster as it stands. Alot of people seem to think we win the Western conference and title with Chuck Hayes and a bunch of rookies and young guys. The reality is this team is probably only the start to our future roster that competes that highly one day.

Hill and Thabeet are the laziest losers ever and some of y’all think they deserve playing time and spots on the team over Chuck.

I have said similar things in regards to other players on our roster so obviously I can't disagree with the logic. I do agree that right now developing the youngsters needs to be the top priority. That said, Chuck is co-captain of the Rockets and I think he's probably the best possible role model for our young team. Do you remember when our team was full of young and talented guys like Francis, Griffin, Taylor and Cato and none of them had any work ethic whatsoever?

Chuck went undrafted and every single year people have predicted he'd fall out of the rotation entirely or even get cut - yet here he still is. And he's better every year. It doesn't matter who the Rockets bring in to replace him - Chuck just straps on his hard hat and goes to work. And seldom does he get out battled. There have been articles about how he's become a locker room leader for this team and I'm just really not sure we can afford to lose that. I'm good with Lowry and the Chuckwagon setting the tone for the rest of the team.

Unfortunately, the guy I think has to go is Scola. He's paid too much considering we're not going anywhere and he's over 30. I have LOVED Luis Scola and will hate to see him go, but I think that probably has to happen. I don't expect Chuck is going to get paid anywhere NEAR what Scola is being paid.

Besides, if lottery picks like Hasheem Thabeet, Jordan Hill and Patrick Patterson can't find a way to beat out 6'5 guy who went undrafted, they simply don't deserve to play. Chuck isn't on the floor because he's the most talented player. He's on the floor because nobody wants to be there more than him or works harder to be there. If that doesn't rub off on these guys, they're going nowhere anyway.

I also agree with the sentiment that Chuck should do what's best for him, but assuming the money is the same, I see no reason why being loyal to the team that invited you to camp when you went undrafted and has retained you all of these years can't be what's best for him. He doesn't have to move his family. He doesn't have to build new relationships. He doesn't have to suffer through the winter in Boston or Chicago. I'd stay.

I wish the Chuck Wagon well regardless. I'd say after perhaps Mario Elie, Chuck has become my favorite Rockets role player of all time (it's hard to top the kiss of death).

I see no good reason to let him leave at all, unless we needed cap space to sign Nene.

You never, ever, let a player (that has value) walk for nothing in free agency. If so, trade him for something.

    You must spread some rep.

I have no clue why Jordan Hill deserves playing time over Chuck just because he could be someone. If Jordan Hill wants playing time over Chuck, he has to earn minutes over Chuck.

Now to mention... there IS such a thing as being TOO young. Look at the Wizards, or Kings. I have no clue why we would let someone who took over the leadership role when Battier left, who has shown what someone who gives a crap can do, and let him walk. A team needs leaders. That's Chuck.

Chuck Hayes is a necessity. Scrubs DD loves are luxuries. No, not luxuries. Trash. They are trash.

I don't care if Chuck Hayes is good in green or pretty in pink. He is red.

    I don't think he's right.

It's easy to point at Chuck and claim he's a weak link, but how? There has seldom been a role player as humble and self-aware yet fierce and competitive as Chuck Hayes.

Yeah, I know we have a lot of young big men to develop, but I'd much prefer a team with Chuck kicking their asses in practice every day than for a guy like Thabeet to look over his shoulder and only see Jordan Hill and Motiejunas challenging him.

Chuck's type of of hard-working attitude is what has personified the over-achieving Rockets the past few years. Keeping that around does FAR more for development than detracting from it.
