Agreed. I think the Rockets will do what is necessary to keep Chuck in red. He'd have to get a ridiculous offer for them to let him walk without a fight. I suppose the real question is do the Rockets feel paying Chuck the full MLE (if it even still exists) is reasonable for what we're trying to accomplish - and how much are other teams willing to offer him?

Why would Chuck want to sign here? By the time the Rockets are competing for a championship, he will probably be retired.

He should go somewhere that gives him a shot at a ring now.

I love Chuck, but he should do whatever is best for himself....now if he thinks that is Houston...fine...but I think he will look around for the best shot at a ring.

Its gonna suck losing Hayes. But he needs an opportunity to compete for a championship before he passes his prime, and his not getting that with us.

Loyalty. The power of believing. Wanting to create something on his own. Wanting to see something through to the finish. Y'all have been watching too much Lebron.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Chuck stayed here, assuming the Rocks offer him a competitive contract. Heck, Battier wants to return, and if anyone knows how far off we are from competing, it'd be Shane. I constantly read here the idea that "We need to trade (fill in the blank) to a contender so he has a chance at a ring!" Sometimes, I think being on a team of guys you really enjoy playing with, with a system you like, in a city you really enjoy, and having a chance to help push that team into contention can trump the idea of being traded to a contending team. What surprised me about Battier was that we've changed coaches, yet he'd still like to come back. That, perhaps, might be reason for a little hope that McHale can do a decent job. Battier isn't a stupid guy.

    Just saw this. Great post!

Ainge has already shown signs of rebuilding on the go with the Celtics. He traded Perkins for Jeff Green to avoid giving him a big extension. The big 3 all have their contracts up at the same time(after next year). The Celtics roster will be barren next offseason just like the Rockets. And Ainge is similar to Morey in that he always keep an eye on the future at all point.

Hayes to me would seem like a go-for-it-all move next year, because a year later that could be a rebuilding team. Of course, Ainge also may have Dwight Howard and CP3 lined up. In which case Hayes would make a good backup 4/5.

Love Chuck but we need to save salary cap space for 2012 and Hayes should go to a contender like CHI, BOS, etc.

I would love to see him on the Celts vs any other contender team. Don't go to Miami, Chuck.

We've been lucky to have him. He's been amazingly versatile despite his offensive weaknesses. He thrived in JVG's defensive schemes and expanded his game under Adelman's up tempo system. You can just tell everyone else loves playing with him. I'm a fan of his no matter where he goes.

I will lose a huge chunk of faith in the rockets if the modesto molester/chuckwagon/amare-stopper/blake griffin-stopper is not resigned to a contract

I would be sad to see Chuck go, but maybe it'd be for the best. Chuck deserves a ring, and let's face it, it's not gonna happen here. It would also let us develop our 4/5 positions by letting the young guys play.

As sad as it would be, it might be the best move for both parties (as long as he doesn't go to Heat, or else I'd be very upset).

At some point, you need to put loyalty aside and do what's best for the team in the long run.

We need to let Chuck Hayes move on. It's time we let Jordan Hill fill the C spot until we can find a suitable replacement.

Wouldn't the "best" thing for most players be playing time? I think chuck would still like a shot at playing significant minutes at his natural position. He's young enough to go ring chasing later if he needs and/or wants to.

new coach, new philosophy, new personnel.

what if the Celtics offer him more money? He'd be the perfect replacement for Perkins.

If you love Chuck Hayes, you'd want him to go Green.

If you don't love Chuck Hayes, you'd want him to go Green.

    Win-Win.

Chuck needs to be our backup power forward.
