He's my favorite writer. His books make it so much easier for me to learn about Astronomy and our own world.

that was AWESOME! didn't see it the first time around. thanks for posting.

exactly what crossed my mind. i love how guys like sagan and dawkins and bertrand russell are so passionate about the science of the universe and see such aching beauty in that derived insignificance. it makes me want to learn so much more about astrophysics and cosmology.

The newest video in the series just came out a few days ago...

    <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/BZ5sWfhkpE0&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/BZ5sWfhkpE0&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

This one has special meaning to me. I was having my dad (a thermal engineer at NASA) listen to all of these videos on Saturday when I noticed this one just came out. We took a listen, and afterward I was talking to him about some of the setbacks we've faced in getting to Mars. My dad is a very quiet, even keeled guy, and doesn't show or speak about his emotions often, but he was visibly upset during our discussion. He told me that when he came to NASA in 1977, it was his mission to put a man on Mars...nothing else mattered.

He said "I've worn my 'Mars or Bust' button to work every day for 33 years, and I'll keep wearing it every day until I retire...even though it's obvious what it's going to be for me. I thought it would happen within 15 years, but the truth is it won't even happen in my lifetime". It made me incredibly sad to hear that, and it makes me wonder if people who are against spending for the space program realize how much it means to some people. People like my dad, who have made it their life's work to achieve firsts in human history.

    It's a shame. :(

its also a shame that we have millions of homeless people out there and we have been making "houses" for thousands of years. and its a shame the amount of money that we spend on war, and the fact that someone out there makes a profit in doing so. its a messed up world.

yeah the world isn't perfect and I think for those who would love more Mars exploration it's about the possibility of escape from this world and starting over.

We do need to get our priorities straight and take care of the people on this planet and eventually we can get back to the space program. Cool song though.

You see, I think that is impossible, for several reasons... Condition have been trending downwards on this planet for the last 1000 years, and with a soaring population, we better find a way to expand.

I totally disagreed. If you cut down on greenhouse affects, we are totally fine. I love the whole idea of going to Mars but it's going to cost like trillion of dollars. We in no hurry or danger that we need to expand. I rather they spend that money on a more concrete research into the propulsions, magnetic gravitation, nano technology, sustainable energy, and ect.. They need the proper fundamental before we should start tackling such a mission as Mars. It could save alot of money and time with proper preparation.

There are also other important factors we need to look at and spend our money on to preserve our civilization. Such as being prepare for incoming meteorites. Another could be the sun's solar flares.

It's like StarCraft. You expand too early and you'll get zergling rushed and die instantly. We need to gather more minerals and build enough marines/tanks/scvs in dropships to defend the Mars base.

As long as we have weapons that can kill everyone on earth, we should be trying to expand...

The universe is so beautiful, faint UV images bring me to tears. I would travel in a ship with no possible return in a heartbeat, wouldn't get very far though ;) relatively.

Bingo. **** the homeless and the wars, let's put the money into space exploration so we can actually save our species.

Didn't realize the same guy did these until now. Not as epic as the Symphony of Science videos, but still catchy little tunes in their own right.
