He relativizes the cruel and unlawful kidnapping of an Israeli soldier by saying By saying Shalit is 1) not innocent, 2) is being lawfully held, he clearly at the very least plays down what the terrorist Hamas organization is doing. Later on, he claims that Israel equally "kidnaps" people, which is not true. Do I really think Mathloom wants to kill "all juice"? Obviously not. But as so often with his posts, they reveal his mindset, even if he clouds it with a lot of words. So, as far as wanting to kill all "juice", yes, it is in jest, but obviously, the part of it that applies is that I am referring to his anti-Israel mindset.
I just gave you an article that described the kidnapping of a Palestinian child, and which said this was a systematic problem in Israel.
If that story is true - which I doubt, at least I doubt that the boy did "nothing" - then the boy came free pretty quickly to to tell his side of the story. How long has Shalit not had this opportunity by now? How many relatives have been able to visit him? Has he received the visits from the Red Cross he would be entitled to?
The boy got off "lucky" with 28 days of prison and severe beatings, you can rest assured there are many others like him who can't tell their story because they are languishing in prison. As for saying Shalit is innocent, well, I highly doubt Shalit has done "nothing". Except in my case, I'd have more circumstantial evidence, since the IDF happens to violate several international laws, and has been accused by NGOs of killing non-violent protesters and beating children. And in my story, the 13 year old child, is merely a Palestinian civilian. This is the same criminal justice system that convicted an Israeli security guard to 6 months of community service for beating a 11 year old child to death. And the same one that convicts Palestinian children to up to 20 years of prison for throwing stones at a wall. Do not pretend that the IDF and Israel have not contributed significantly to creating their own monsters.
So sad. You don't have to pick sides but at least feel for the children that don't have a thing to do with this.
None of the Palestinian prisoners held in Israel are being held lawfully, if you want to go down that road.
He's not being held lawfully. But Israel has shown it does not care a whit about most international treaties and laws. Why should it expect any better treatment from the monster it helped to create?
Can you show any cases of Israel holding prisoners hostage for 5 years in an unknown location, not allowing them to communicate with relatives, not giving the Red Cross access to them, demanding ransom for their release, and refusing to let anyone communicate with him, despite calls for his release by the United Nations and world leaders from all sides, as well as human rights organizations? Has Israel treated any prisoners like Hamas is treating Shalit?
No, Israel doesn't even bother with prisoners most of the time. As for the one activist they imprisoned, the organizer of these events--- why bother keeping them hostage? There's no such thing as hostages for Israel. They just have a host of political prisoners, child prisoners, and etc. but to insulate that those are hostages, you'd have to have a media blitz on the suffering of these individuals, and you'd have to equate prison with hostage-taking (since both involve holding people against their will). but hey, the United States has the highest documented incarceration rate in the world, so any thought that sticking people into jail for non-violent protest might be as morally wrong as holding them hostage should never cross anyone's mind.
Has Shalit been tortured in captivity incidentally? This happens routinely to illegally detained Palestinians. Not that I am without aversion to the concept of Shalit being the child in the "Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas", but to say that oh, one side is so terrible to this one prisoner...ignores the fact that Israel has been violating international law with regards to all of its' prisoners, that it tortures children in their prisons, and that it holds political prisoners. I deride Hamas and their tactics, but the IDF and Israel have never fought cleanly, so to expect the savages they unleashed with these puritanical policies to act cleanly as well is just laughable.
gwayneco the announcer--- has nothing to contribute, merely chirps along like the guy at WWE. fair enough. Want to rectify your "73 statement", oh wise and impartial observer?
"Tortures children in their prisons"? So you concede that 1) Israel does arrest people on alleged charges of unlawful conduct instead of just kidnapping them like Hamas, that 2) any allegations of torture are hearsay spouted off by Palestinians who are actually free at the time they make these allegations, unlike Mr. Shalit who has no way to make his voice heard and that 3) Israel, in contrast to Hamas, does not keep prisoners hidden away in some unknown location (if they are even alive), but in regular prisons with a known address where the relatives know where the prisoners are. Thanks.
The WWE is rigged anyways. I could show you how American military aid to Israel transfers military technology to China (and is the reason why they are so intimate with certain American missile parts, enough to design defenses against them), but still you'd hold out. And for what? I don't know. Suffice it to say, Israeli politicians are laughing all the way to the bank with constituents like yourself in the United States.
What the f*** do you call beating children, fun happy time? You lose the debate on Israel whenever your best defense is to say "what they do is better than what Hamas does." Hamas is the scum of the Earth. Israel is SUPPOSED to be a stable, lawful democracy, or at least that's what American military aid is going towards. The fact that you even have to enumerate the slight differences (oh, Palestinians know where their sons are being tortured, that makes it A-OK!) just shows that you are beginning to accept Hamas and Israel are two sides of the same ugly coin.
