I had this ****ed up one a few weeks ago. It started out the kind where you hang out one of your good friends you don't talk to anymore, in this case a college buddy of mine. So I'm doing the rounds of catching up with him, seeing how he's doing, what he's been up to. I've had these dreams before. We had a falling out so there isn't any contact between us for 7/8 years. Well it turns out that he's dead as in a ghost and I'm Mr. Sixth Sense. Apparently there are ghosts who go into hiding to escape The Man and judgement and I've dun flushed my buddy out and he's being dragged to hell. But then I realize I'm dead as well, and I'm going to hell too. The dream ends with me being pulled into hell with the Hollywood screams and demon hands pulling me in. The worst part was being terrified at the prospect of agony. Fortunately I couldn't imagine any feeling of pain or torture. I'm not really religious either, but a dream like that can make you think. Then I fell back asleep and went on my merry ways... It must be my new job or something because I'm either having more nightmares or at least remembering more of them lately. I had one this weekend about an alligator biting me in the leg out of the blue. Like I was robbing a bank or something and one came up out of nowhere to bite me. No real stress, just more hours. That bothers the hell outta me over the next day (...okay week) when I drive over one.
Someone else might know but I wonder if that's just apnea. Not "just" though, potentially fatal stuff. There's also some scary as hell sleep paralysis thing. It reminds of what I think was an episode of the New Twilight Zone, from the mid-eighties.
I had one where I was dreaming normal and all of a sudden people in the dream would start punching and poking my balls. I couldn't stop them for the life of me, and the pain shoots to the point where I wake up. Turns out the blanket somehow wrapped it tightly and cut off circulation to it.
Sleep paralysis is a terrifying experience. I've had recurring episodes of this throughout my adult life and it always leaves the lingering feeling like I was being possessed or something. Very freaky. It's a half dream state where you're half asleep but conscious. The artwork inspired by fears surrounding this state is enough to cause nightmares in itself. Typically people report feeling haunted by a scary demon woman of some sort. So far modern research has no real proven explanation for the phenomenon, only hypothesis.
Just woke up from this dream: Moved into new house that was haunted...and there were two dogs that watched over a dead boys grave in the front yard. WTF.
I had a 'Dream Dictionary' book a few years ago. I remember a few things from it: Losing fights: fear of losing control. Losing or loose teeth: fear of aging. I used to have 'chasing' tornado/zombie/bear dreams. I think those are temper/stress dreams. http://www.dreamsymbolism.info/
The only time I vividly remember dying in a dream was drowning. It sucked. I actually had a dream the other night where two guys where put in straight jackets and shackled to the floor of a large tank that was then slowly filled with water until it was just above their heads. About 10 seconds in, the water level came back down for a moment before rising again. I guess it was an interrogation strategy, because I don't remember anything else about the dream.
When I was a kid it was falling. Now I've had dreams of being shot, stabbed, or car crashes. But I usually don't have nightmares; just dreams.
I don't ever really seem to fight in my dreams but I do find that when I go to scream that my screams never work. They're like half ass and I can never run at the proper speed, like everyone else is running at full speed chasing me or whatever and I'm screaming with no noise and running like someone is holding me back.
I never seem to die in my dreams, only times were years ago where I was dreaming about falling out of the window, just before hitting the ground I woke up lying on the floor, I literally fell out of my bed.
This, often I fight with a chainsaw but my actions don't harm the opponent. Gets frustrating but most of the times I end up killing him/her pretty bloody(most of the times girls though? strange.?). I'm not violent at all in real life, so these dreams are pretty confusing.
Godzilla. Or more specifically, had a dream where I rode a Godzilla around some city before I was taken out by a missile. It was glorious. About the only time I can remember dying in a dream - heck it's the only dream I remember.
