Jay Austin has been a big disappointment and a blow to Wade and Heck's rep...dude was a second rd pick.
Well, not exactly a night to remember for OKC as they got smacked around by Omaha 7-1. Anderson Hernandez had the lone hit, and the demoted J.R. Towles scored the lone run in the 8th. The Hairless One allowed all 7 runs (5 earned) on 10 hits in 4 1/3, walking 2 and striking out 1. A pesky Tulsa offense flustered Dallas Keuchel tonight, as he ended up allowing 4 runs and 10 hits in 6 2/3. He walked 1 and fanned 5 tonight as Corpus eventually fell 5-4 in 10. T.J. Steele hit a 2-run homer in the 7th, his 6th of the season, which tied the game at 4. J.D. Martinez had a sac fly, and Chris Wallace had an RBI groundout. Kyle Greenwalt allowed Tulsa to score the winning run in the top of the 10th. After taking a perfect game into the 6th in his last start, Jose Cisnero couldn't get out of the 1st, allowing 5 runs on 4 hits (1 2-run homer), walking 2, and only recording 2 outs. Lancaster got demolished 12-3 by RC. The bright side was that Adam Bailey hit his 1st homer as a Jethawk, a solo shot in the 4th. He also added another RBI in the 5th on a single. David Flores added a solo homer of his own, which occurred in the 2nd. Bailey now has 17 homers and 56 RBI overall. Lexington got the broom in their doubleheader against Hickory. In the 1st game, which technically was the continuation of game 2, which was supposed to be played yesterday, the Legends allowed 6 runs in the 3rd on the way to losing 6-2. Mike Kvasnicka had the only RBI. Telvin Nash scored when Ben Heath grounded into a double play. Ruben Alaniz allowed 4 of the 6 runs, 3 of them earned. He didn't record an out in the 3rd, allowing 4 hits, while not walking or striking out a batter. In game 2, it was more of the same, as they lost 6-1. The Legends drew first blood, but the Crawdads scored 6 unanswered in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th to run away with the win. Mike Kvasnicka drove in the only run, and Jay Austin went 2-3 with a double and scored the lone run. Luis Cruz allowed 6 runs on 8 hits (1 solo homer) in 4 1/3, walking 1 and striking out 4. Tri-City was held to 2 hits while being blanked 2-0 by Aberdeen. John Hinson and Matt Duffy split the 2 hits amongst themselves. Juri Perez certainly pitched well enough to win, allowing 6 hits (1 solo homer), 2 runs, walking 1, and striking out 2, but he took the loss, as the ValleyCats offense went MIA. Greeneville tied their game with Elizabethton at 2 after the 6th, off RBIs from Alex Todd and Luis Alvarez. But...... Jordan Scott committed a fatal error in the bottom of the 8th, allowing Niko Goodrum to come all the way home after he had doubled, sending the Appy Astros to a 3-2 loss. Luis Ordosgoitti allowed a 2-run homer in the 3rd, the one rough spot in another strong outing. He went 6, allowing 5 hits, the 2-run homer, and struck out 7. He had to settle for the no-decision, as Zach Dando was responsible for the Elizabethton run in the 8th. The Gulf Coasters got homers from Chris Epps and Justin Shults on their way to a 12-6 win over the Nationals. Epps went 3-3 with 4 RBI and scored 3 times, and Shults went 2-3 with a double, 3 RBI, and scored 3 times. Kenny Diaz also drove in 3. Francis Ramirez allowed 3 homers in 2 2/3, allowing 4 runs and striking out 3. Pedro Gomez got the win in relief, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, and struck out 1 in 2 1/3. The Academy fell 9-5 to the Cardinals. Jose Solano had a 2-run homer. Yoel Silfa drove in 2, and Mesac Laguna drove in the other run. Agapito Barrios allowed 6 runs (5 earned) on 4 hits (1 3-run homer) in 2, walking 3 and striking out 1. Ugh.... the GCL team was the only one to get a win. They had been on a 9-game losing streak.
Austin Wates has REALLY turned it up lately. He has his avg up to .314, OBP is up to almost .370 and slugging over .400. I think he is ready for CC, could depend on whatever the Stros do with JD Martinez.
I bet that JD Martinez and Austin Wates will not play on the same team this year. JD will probably get moved up to OKC at the same time Wates gets moved up to CC. Drew Locke will probably be released or TJ Steele will be sent down to balance out the rosters.
I'll keep the Futures Game talk here. Tyler Skaggs of Visalia is the starter, and he's shredded up the Cali League. The Diamondbacks somehow snagged him from the Angels in the Dan Haren deal.
Yeah, didn't mean to short change him like that. Great players get great prospects, he's no different.
Jose Altuve is playing in the Futures Game on ESPN2 right now. He has the only two hits for the World team right now.
Here's the man who has led the Minors in strikeouts the past two seasons. Matt Moore. First 2 pitches were 99 and 100. Then he gets a foul on a 98 mph fastball. And he just struck out Alex Liddi, who's been mashing for Tacoma in the PCL with an 88 mph slider. He will be in Tampa by the end of this season. Then a one pitch out to the next guy. 98. 97. Slider. 87. Another slider. 88. Foul. 99. Ball. 98. Groundout. 99. Yep, that's Matt Moore's 4th right there.
Cool to see Alex Liddi in the Futures Game. He's the first Italian-born position player to appear in the game. I always like to see Europe produce players.
Altuve needs to be a top 100 prospect next year. What more does this guy need to do? He's gonna be the starting second baseman for the Astros next year.
