Fitting ending to another lousy performance...

I don't blame Brad for calling the team meeting, he needed to do something but the issue is talent...or lack of it. Mills refuses to blame any one player and that is fine but he is going to need to shake things up during the break whether he wants to or not.

this is a case where sending him down is pretty much useless, IMO. he's 30 years old. let him finish the season, and make a decision on retaining him or cutting him (or miraculously trading him) in the offseason. the guy has had control issues his whole pro career. that's not going to change in the minors, and there's no AAA pitcher whose spot he's in the way of by staying on the big league club.

his ceiling is an adequate #4. he's a dime a dozen. let him get drilled for another 3 months, and find a way to get him off the team, i say.

I don't usually listen to the postgames but Happ was pretty touchy and defensive during his interview. Understandable... reminded me of Galaragga earlier in the season before he got DA'd. Happ didn't get as angry but he was close to bursting.

I agree. I laughed out loud at JD's comment about how the Marlins fans couldn't get the wave going because they are too spread out and it's hard to know when it's your turn when the wave has to pass through two empty sections first.

A Rangers fan fell to his death today in Arlington. Hamilton tossed him a foul ball, and he leaned over the railing to catch it and fell 20 feet face first into the concrete below.

is it me or does that seem to happen a lot more. when i was a kid i would always wonder why stadiums were so unsafe but you never heard about people falling over railings. maybe its the internet age and more news but I swear that never happened when i was young. now you see three or four stories a year about someone falling.

i really don't understand how they can be so unsafe. i mean as far as i know there is no clause on tickets that say you enter at your own risk. seems like a huge liability issue.

Pence may not be good in the field but he has a cannon of an arm.

And Lyles lookin' very AAA-ish in this game. I still don't get the point of bringing him up this season, no matter how he performs.

My goodness... queue Bob Uecker... 2nd massively wild pitch by Lyles... almost out of the camera shot that time.

Lyles has been awful, humidity or no humidity. He's all over the place. Made some good pitches here and there but this was a really bad showing.

Tough game for Jordan, just one of those games that rookies go through. Besides that, nothing much to see...Bourn is fast.

By the way, Beckett was taken out of his start with a mildly hyperextended left knee...they need pitching badly.

Berkman with another blast tonight. 2 up on Kemp now. Regained the OPS lead for the moment.

The Pirates will be in 1st place on percentage points if the scores of the relevant games stay the same. It very likely won't last but it's a pretty nice story.

ARod is going to need surgery on his knee, should be out 4-6 weeks, the AL East is a mash unit right now. Yanks wanted Keppinger before the season and almost had him until he broke his foot, look for them to make a play for him again...soon. Milwaukee is going after middle infield help too and should be in the running too.

Don't really understand the reluctance to send Happ to the minors, Cliff Lee had to do it and others have too. Seems to me like Wade is being a little stubborn given he was the main pitcher back in the Oswalt trade. By the way, Stros front office really does think we are stupid, don't they?

Saw this from Jon Heyman this morning on the prospects of the Astros being sellers this trade deadline...

In a word, unfortunate. IMO, instead of looking out for his own self-serving interests, Wade should do what's right for the team as a way to send a message to Crane that he's the right man for the job.
