nothing like that would happen in mexico because poor countries have better healthcare than us. whaatt

the award is for the baby, i don't care. its the system we have, i'm sure legal citizens who don't pay insurance have the same rights to malpractice. while i think the overall situation needs a fix, can't hang the baby out to dry.

    Did you read the story?

Fischer said Gallardo, who still lives in Colorado Springs, is an undocumented immigrant from Mexico who plans to continue to live in Colorado Springs.

    That part pisses me off.

Sorry, Air Langhi, but I don't know if "Your parents crossed over the borders without a visa befoe you were born, therefore a hospital can negligently or recklessly give you brain damage without legal recourse" is as much of a hard case as you belive, to me anyway.

So you're basically denying benefits for an American citizen (the baby)....?

My problem is that a person who got here illegally says that she will continue to live here. That baby is screwed she will need care for the rest of her life.

Its just a sad situation all around.

I have no problem with this and I see no problem with this. The mother is probably eligible for some type of relief, or she will be in a couple years. The article doesn't give many details, but she could be her living without status while she waits for adjustment of status. Either way, deporting her would cause extreme hardship to a United States citizen, especially since the baby's father is out of the picture.

Frankly, I don't think she should be required to take her United States citizen baby to die in Mexico. As a US citizen, and, as her lawyer points out, as a human being, that child is entitled to adequate health coverage. With that in mind, what exactly the problem here?

Well, an argument can be made in immigration court, almost undoubtedly successfully, that the mother should be given status to live in this country because the citizen baby needs the better care that can be gotten in this country.

You should probably pick another example if you are trying to be against unauthorized immigration.
