Very good defensively and very good athletically. We need more defense than offense at this point, and he could guard big wings. He's actually a pretty good passer, too.
Get a 3 or 4 for 1 trade for That Player We Need so the roster will have balance, and bring Shane in for a reasonable contract (which will probably be the case anyway, thanks to David Stern)..... And don't expect him to necessarily start, unless it's to mitigate Kevin Martin's absolute suckiness on defense. All this, IF some other trade doesn't kill the option.
We've got Morris and bud. And twill who we ought to give a few mins to to see what we has - the least we can do since we traded for him! A poor mans iggy. Those three are also like 10mil per yr less and the drop off by the end of the year between that trio vs iggy would not be that great. If we didn't draft Morris and we whiff on a big - then I would have still liked iggy. But I think we are better off giving up a lil for biedrins or going after d12.
Not my worst nightmare, but certainly a bad dream. I was so glad to see him go, almost as much as Rafer. The Rockets don't quickly recognize their mistakes, Trevor Ariza is one exception. Remember Moochie, didn't he come back like a bad penny. Nice guy, but please, no.
I would love to have Shane Battier back on this team in a role similar to what he did for the Grizzlies: come off the bench and provide leadership, defense, energy, some occasional post offense, and buzzer-beating 3s. This, of course, would only be desirable if we did that magical trade for a superstar we've been wanting for a few seasons. If we traded away Lee or Martin and, say, Bud and T-Will, we could definitely use a Shane Battier. There would just need to be a no-mustache clause in his contract.
Might as well get this one out of the way... Shane Battier is the consummate professional. I hope he retires a Rocket.
Would love to have him back at reduced cap number and understanding that it'll be a bench role. Even as a plainsclothes locker room influence, he's worth the roster spot. Just need to swing our 3-for-1 or 5-for-2 megatrade to open up the space.
... coach  Battier still has one more big payday before hanging 'em up and coaching but ... I would love to see him back on our bench when he does.

http://espn.go.com/espnradio/player?rd=1#/podcenter/?id=6746480&autoplay=1&callsign=ESPNRADIO link to Battier portion of the SVP show. he just said in passing that Houston may be a possibility, but it was more related to the possibility that his house may not sell. nothing to see here.
If Shane is interested in coming back, we would be crazy to not take him back. He is not the type of player to cause problems if he doesn't play 30 plus minutes, but he is the type of player who will give us everything he has no matter how little time he spends on the court. Also who better to help the slightly slow footed Marcus Morris with defensive positioning, timing, and the professionalism it will take to defend in the league.
Sure bring him back. Add to what we already have. Its a glut but if Moreys thinking is to clear some things out to get back a few decent stars in a trade? Why not bring back Battier so every position is stocked enough to handle any trade we do?
I want him back, to mentor and eventually back up Marcus Morris. Feel free to trade T-Will, Jordan Hill, Thabeet, Donuts and possibly Bud.. I don't see it happening, though.
