No kidding. NBATV used to show games every now and then. I doubt they show games with the NBA guys there though.

Its not a good deal at all. I simply don't see why D-Will will risk injury in a foreign land just to earn what amounts to chump change with his current salary. He's been earning 15+M every year the past 4 years...

Think about it, you get in injured by some random turk, tear your knee in half and boom! The nets will void your 16M contract just like that.

Deron's contract situation is different. He's pretty much in the last year of his contract. Other star players have less incentive to risk voiding their current deals.

Besiktas doesn't play in Euroleague, only Eurocup.

Doubt it's a misprint. Many top soccer players in bigger markets (England, Spain, Italy) etc. don't even get paid $200K/120K Euro approx. a week. Couple that with the fact that the team takes on a lot of risk as the player may leave at any moment during the season, and I'd think the team would be crazy to take on such a big burden. Iverson got $2mil/year from this team IIRC. Besides, $200K void of taxes and virtually all living expenses is a sweet deal, probably equates to about $400K per month of NBA figures once you factor in taxes and the cost of driver/assistant/living etc.

So if he gets hurt he will no longer be a Net?

This sounds like a win-win for Dwill. He never seemed enthusiastic about going to New Jersey.

D-Will and the other superstars in the league are the only real players that can pull this stuff off. What are their franchises going to do, cut them? Superstars in the NBA can literally take their team hostage. What's Orlando going to say to Dwight Howard if he gets hurt playing abroad? Sorry but we are gonna waive off your salary when it comes time for the NBA to start back up? Yeah and they can kiss their chances at re-signing him goodbye too. What's Miami going to do to Lebron or Wade? That's right, nothing.

So that's why there should be a traveling all-star team touring Europe and beating down some Euroleague teams. We can call it the "Suck It OHMSS" team, or more appropriately, the "2010 Olympics Team".

This is solely for the purpose of trying to gain a bargaining chip in negotiations and possibly some additional endorsements. I seriously doubt Williams is completely acting on his own in this, I think the NBAPA is encouraging players to sign elsewhere in order to give them a better stance at the bargaining table. And yes, possibly getting another shoe contract or two.

The question is, would Williams really risk injury for this? No, he wouldn't. I think he'll play, but he's not going to be playing every game, and I doubt he'll be going all out either. He doesn't have to risk that much to send the message to the owners, or to earn some good PR. The Turkish team will win with the extra ticket sales he'll bring in just by sitting on the bench.

If I were Kobe, I'd just take the time to rest. Anything he does in Europe isn't going to contribute to his legacy.

Yep, in a way if the "exodus" of NBA stars happen it will probably speed up the process to end the lockout.

Williams won't play in Eurocup. He will be in the second tier competition, along with Motiejunas. That is IF his team qualifies to make it. Last season ESPN3 broadcast all of Besiktas' Eurocup games, until Iverson left the team.

The deal is for $5 million net income.

Regardless of what he is individually - he will be playing in a secondary competition by European standards. Something like the #7-10 ranked range in terms of the best leagues in Europe, as far as the Turkish Basketball League and the Eurocup are concerned.

It's definitely not a top level of European basketball, regardless of what any NBA fan or ESPN might claim. In fact, it is closer to a third level range in Europe actually.

i heard that it's more about euro chicks that motivated Deron to go there for a year.
