YaosDirtyStache. Facepalm. "Like how are people different? WHAT? ARE YOU TELLING ME YOU DON'T HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS I DO??" Call me when you hit 26 dude. You're a little kid wearing his dad's shoes, screaming "look how fast I can throw" to all the adults.

SCK's b!tch: proving he has nothing of value to say, and no one better to say it to, one thoughtless thread at a time.

I logged on a moment ago, with the intention of mentioning I was leaving this site, just because of the sheer amount of hatred for fat people I find on here almost daily. Then I thought I would just leave quietly without an announcement, because, while I am an attention-w****...the "dramatic announcement" category seems kind of pathetic for the most part.

Then I got to thinking, why run from this fight. Maybe a few of you give a crap about fat peoples health, I don't know. Some of you might even think mockery and scorn "helps" shame fat people into diet and exercise. Deep down in my heart of hearts, I think most people pile onto fat people because they have this "thank God it isn't me" thing going on. Maybe some want public credit for their trim waistlines and nutrition/workout habits, and its easier to mock fatties than to risk public scorn for gloating (though there are plenty of thinly disguised gloating threads too). No, I guess the best thing I can do is stick around and remind you when I can that fat people are also, people. And if, like some of you say, I have doomed myself to a miserable short existence, the least I can do is use some of it to defend tolerance and humanity.

I like the sports talk and I like a lot of the people. I also think it's important for someone to be here to say that it is not o.k. to say terrible things about your fellow human beings just because you manage to make it to the gym more, or have a better metabolism.

So, I guess you are stuck with me and I am stuck with you.

I'm sorry you feel that way, Major. It's just a reality that people on the internet can be rude, because they are behind a cell phone, or a keyboard and mouse. The thing that gets me is the intentional racism on article comments.

I packed on 20 lbs since moving to Houston from New York City

I just never walk anywhere anymore... even to the corner store to pick up a snack... I would drive.

    1. too damn hot
    2. no sidewalks?
    3. walking isn't 'normal' in Houston

This says a lot about Houston's obesity problem. The weather sucks. When I was younger it didn't bother me that much.

I agree with you that it's not ok to say terrible things about people because they are overweight.

When I was 10 years old, my dad had a major heart attack because of his life choices. He was lucky enough to survive. My best friend's dad wasn't as fortunate. This shaped me into caring about fitness and being healthy. When I have kids, I would like to see them grow up. It is my belief that once you have somebody relying on you, being extremely unhealthy is a selfish endeavor.

Being healthy isn't about going to the gym. It's not about eating salads or lean meats. It's not about consuming massive amounts of workout supplements or sitting in a tanning salon.

Being healthy is about being able to do the things you love. Our time in this place is limited, so why not give ourselves the ability to do the things we want to do without imposing physical (and mental) limitations?

I've read a lot of your posts about being overweight and I can tell you are bitter about how you've been treated. You are who you are and that's who you want to be. I will agree with you that people have an incorrect view of what is healthy. However, it would be insane to ignore the epidemic of diabetes in both adults and children in this country.

People are morbidly obese for a number of different reasons. Some being apathy, depression but from my personal experiences of talking to people it really comes from lack of knowledge. Lack of knowledge about the junk food they eat and how they eat. There are so many small changes that a person can make that would benefit them so much in the long run. But getting to be that big takes a multitude of dietary errors. These being:

    1. Not eating that often. Tricking your brain into thinking the body that it's being starved. This goes against intuition, but eating less often will make you gain body fat.
    2. Eating massive meals. This coupled with not eating often is a recipe for more body fat.
    3. Loss of muscle mass due to lack of activity. When you lose muscle, your body has to burn less calories naturally to sustain muscle. Couple this with a static intake of food and you have a recipe for getting even bigger.

Don't let some of these insensistive bastards get you down.

At some point in their life; with their children, their significant others, other family members, they will deal with this issue at a personal level.

Hopefully, they will learn that their current view and attitude is pretty ****ty.

I was a former fatty twice. I'm 5'11 and at my peak I was at 260 lbs. The second time I put on a ton of weight I weighed 230 lbs. It was simple why I was fat. I ate a lot and lived a fairly sedentary lifestyle. All I can say really is it takes a lot of work to get really big. Like you really gotta eat all the time in order to put on fat.

I fixed it though by counting calories on sparkpeople, working out with weights, and then when I reached a point where my feet or joints didn't hurt running, I turned up the cardio. I now hover anywhere from 160-165 lbs. I've been more lax with workouts lately and am not as strict with my diet to get this to this point. I'm naturally a more active person. If something is in walking distance, I'll walk there instead of driving. This is tough to do because I don't live in downtown Austin but I take the time to at least move around 60 minutes a day and do some form of low intensity to moderate physical activity.

I do empathize with overweight people being a former one myself. I had all the excuses in the world why I was fat but the truth was I didn't want to change bad enough in order to get results. Food makes you instantly feel good. The excuses about metabolism though I simply do not buy. It really isn't that hard to drop weight when you reach a point of obesity. Your body is pretty much a walking furnace at burning calories at that weight and even consuming 500 less calories a day while taking up a moderate exercise like walking a half hour everyday will yield results. I mean really unless you have a thyroid or some glandular problem that really is slowing down your metabolism then the simple truth is you are consuming or maintaining enough calories in your diet to pack on or maintain your weight.

Cut 500 calories from your diet and you'll lose a 1 lb. a week. It's really that simple.

If I were obese, I would turn my eating addiction into an addiction for losing weight. What London'sBurning said would be the minimum for me. I would suck at a sport until I became good. I would do light weight training for as long as I could, and change up the diet.

Look at the food you've been eating over the course of your life and see this is where it's gotten you.

Yeah, eff all that. That's why I enjoy the air conditioned courts at my gym.

I just saw this thread after 3 visits to my office's break room to use the microwave for lunch. the 3 visits were each separated by five minutes.

The same morbidly obese pasty-white admin has using the microwave to heat up not one, not two, but three lean cuisine frozen meals for lunch during that entire 15 minute span.

You always say this.... You have serious denial/insecurity issues you need to address. It might not be what you like to hear, but you would certainly benefit by listening. Stop wondering and thinking "Why are they doing this? Why are they saying this to me?" and take a hard look at yourself.

Anyone can eat 3 lean cuisine frozen meals, but one of those things is more than enough. What can I say except he eats when he's bored.

So what about being fat makes someone deserving of abuse? What am I in denial about? Being fat? Or am I in denial about being reasonably happy, since all fat people must be morose and miserable all the time.

What "hard look at myself" would you suggest? That I lose the weight and that way I could be "on the right side" of the abuse. Making fun of people about their weight is wrong. Period. End of story.

What happened to me. At my peak (which was two months ago) I was 5'11'' and 240 pounds with 21% body fat. Never really liked going to the gym and didn't work out too much. Would rather lounge around and drive everywhere. Weight loss is like 90% diet and 10% exercise. And if you hate cardio don't do it. Diet >> Weight lifting >> cardio. Diet and weight lifting is the easiest way to lose weight. I find myself addicted to the gym and feel depressed on my off days (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Sat/Sun). At work when I use to take the elevator to my car in the parking garage, I now take the stairs up to the sixth floor. I park at the farthest parking spot at my gym. The little things help. Hopefully this helps someone viewing this thread.

Three lean cuisine meals can be anywhere from 750-1100 calories depending. Assuming he eats another 3 for dinner and not much else that comes in right around a 2000 calorie diet.

Course that would be pretty expensive....It's certainly not gluttony
