I use FLAC with Exact Audio Copy to archive every CD I buy (and, yes, I buy almost all of my music on CD; the rest are from Amazon's MP3 store). I use MediaMonkey to sync to my Ipod (older 80GB model). MediaMonkey will automatically trans-code FLAC to MP3 as it syncs.

A CD library is so much more impressive than an mp3 library. A vinyl collection is even better, but only if you're old enough to have used them. If you're my age or younger and use vinyl, you're just a hipster.

I am, in fact, old enough to remember albums. My first, I think, was Heart Little Queen for $4.99 from some grocery store in Bellaire that is long gone. I have no idea where all my albums are (assuming my parents did something with them).

A CD collection is impressive but digital music is SO much more convenient. I have all my music on a NAS and can stream it to almost any room in my house. Or just listen to albums (or Pandora or Rhapsody) via my Sonos controller in front of my main stereo rig while reading (electronic books on my Kindle :) ).
