    Not a huge story, and personally I don't care about my meat being religiously slaughtered, but it's interesting how this leaves Muslims and Jews in the same boat with no friends. I always imagine that this is how things will end up in the Middle East once oil dries up.

    I must say this doesn't appear to be the usual European Islamophobia. I think this ban is a pretty good idea. Ofcourse, my view is that health, civility and cleanliness are far more important than ancient rituals.

    imo kosher and halal meat always seems to be better quality and healthier than conventional (except for aged steaks of course!)......in NY i would typically only have kosher meat bought for my kitchen

    same story with the circumcision bans.

    inhumane practices are starting to lose their ability to hide behind the concept of "religious freedom", and it's about time.

    Does it specifically say in the Quran that the animal has to be conscious? Won't it bleed just as quick if it was conscious or unconscious? Just curious.

    This is funny. Conservatives there want to end this ritual because it's foreign. It would be ok with them if it was a local tradition but those damn A-RABS!

    Dependent upon the recipe and/or cooking technique, I find kosher and halal meats too dry for my tastes.

    That does not mean that Kosher slaughter is as painless/humane as other methods.

    Meat from local halal meat markets in Houston absolutely sucks ass. There is no way most of these store owners are paying for good quality meat. I've seen it delivered to the stores and warehoused and am surprised most of these places have not shut down.

    Yes, encourage grown men capable of making that choice to do it to themselves. Otherwise, safe sex practice will suit them just fine if they choose otherwise.

    Agreed.

    Animal rights > Old ass traditions of butchering animals.

    Have some family that we invite over few times and the jackass dude has to have halal meat. He forces his wife and kids to eat nothing but halal meat. Of course behind is back they pretty much eat whatever. I just can't stand these types of people! :mad:

    Those who allow themselves to follow ignorance because it argues against religion are they themselves following "mindlessly" as they claim the other side is doing.
