For the Houston natives, I know these names are familiar. They are long time news anchors for KTRH radio. KTRH from since I can remember was a traditional AM news station that had mostly news programs from early morning till evening. Then they would delve into Larry King or some out there programs talking about aliens but I digress. Most of the day was radio broadcast news. They also were the first sports talk radio station in Houston after being down with the news.

Enter the times of conservative talk. over the last ten years i guess the station has slowly evolved into conservative talk radio with almost no traditional news coverage. it really was the only radio news station i've known, and now they seem to be giving up the news broadcast all together. i know this subject has been discussed before but on television, on the main dial you could still get the local and national news broadcasts that you could count on from the last over fifty years. not so on radio, its disappearing rapidly. sad reality

link just in case you want to read about these guys

A overheard a fringe nut co-worker say that the reason conservatives in Texas are so into radio news is because when freedom fighters start the revolution to declare Texas as an independent nation, radio will be the best way to communicate. The feds will take over all TV stations to provide govt run news.

I didn't know what to say.

I was just reading that on mikemcgruff.com right now.

Next thing you know they'll replace Matt and Adam with Walton and Johnson.

I can't wait to move out of this state when i graduate.

    BTW, this is their replacement.

Everything must make money. Things that make money are good. If something does not make money, then it is worthless.

News on the radio does not make money, therefore it is worthless.
Right-wing radio makes money, therefore it is good.

Oh, good. We just don't have enough local political talk-radio HACKS in this city yelling about the REALLY IMPORTANT issues of the day - like whether or not some kid stands up for the pledge of allegiance. What a unique and fresh perspective.

    RIP real news radio.

I agree that the station is making the changes because of what makes money. however, to their slight defense, houston is probably (not probably, is) the largest conservative market not including outlying areas. The fourth largest city and the first of the four, NY, LA, Chicago, that is mostly conservative. especially including the surburbs.

This city elected a gay female mayor. Has consistently had a democratic mayor. I believe Obama actually won in Harris county so I don't know how you can say this is a conservative city.

All news is slanted, some broadcasters just don't reveal their biases. Faux objectivity gives what they report more perceived authority. They're the "real news" you see, other people aren't because they tell you where they're coming from instead of hiding their beliefs like "real news" people.

Why would you listen to the radio for news (or TV for that matter)? A horribly inefficient way to stay informed. Why do you need the filter of J.P. Pritchard and Lana Hughes, are they talented news aggregators? If all they do is read copy, can hire an intern to do that much cheaper.

We are moving toward the British newspaper model, that's a good thing.

On a state and national election basis the districts will be gerrymandered so that the result is a clear majority for conservatives. There might be pockets of voters that are allowed to . KTRH will get revenues from businessmen supporting their message despite the local demographic.

    The money dictates the message.
