He was talking about Perry Jones. Barnes is everything you want in a superstar, personality wise. He's more Durant than he is Kobe.
How is Perry Jones' perimeter game? (Dribbling, outside shot etc.) Someone who has actually seen him play, please chime in.
I've only been to one game this season (vs Jackson State) and it was the game where he scored 20 points which was pretty sweet. To start, almost all of his points came from midrange jumpers. I don't think he took a shot outside of 15 feet, so I can't say for sure how consistent he is from distance. What I can say is his midrange game looks nice. He has a nice turnaround jumper and he can pretty much just shoot over everyone. He also had a several nice dunks, 2 of which were putbacks and 1 was for an and 1. As for dribbling, he played off the ball for the majority of the game. He occasionally brought the ball up the court, but he didn't do any major handling. Most of his scoring possessions were off pick and rolls/pops. Which probably explains why he only attempted 3 freethrows (Didn't really mix it up in the post or put the ball on the floor and drive to the hoop). It wasn't a crazy good performance, but it was solid. He shot over 50% grabbed 8 boards, 3 steals. Also had 4 turnovers, but I didn't really notice them cause the entire team was forcing weird passes in/into the paint. But yeah, this analysis is just based on one game. Once I go to more games i'll have a better idea.
I think the importance of PG's has been overstated severely. While the current generation of top PG's still have many years to change the trend, the truth is that it's been nearly 20 years since a PG has been the franchise/transcendent player on a NBA championship winner. I honestly feel that positions should not matter when drafting, but instead you should draft the player you believe is the best. As of right now I'm not sure who is better but I would hope the Rockets would choose the best player and not the best fit.(This is if you are a high lottery team. You are a lottery team for a reason, so it's obvious that you need more than just role players)
I think he's supposed to have more of KD's type athleticism than Randolphs. Sophomore on UNC John Henson reminds me a lot of Randolph. Extremely athletic, just not fluid.
No, John Henson epitomizes the word fail. Top 5 recruit coming out of high school, mid lotto by the end of last year, and now late lotto right now. He has made no improvements to his game during the off-season. He has no offensive game outside of 3 feet, and is a 23% FT shooter.
A lot of people are talking up Kyrie Irving. They think he's an absolute game-changer and has Chris Paul-like ability. I've seen him play a couple of times and I think the kid has crazy upside.
He's a work in progress. He's a tall, lanky athletic guy that Roy doesn't know if he's a 4 or a 3. That fits Randolph to the tee. He actually improved a lot over the course of the freshman season. After Ed Davis' injury, he got more run and got better. The fact that you're declaring he's made no improvements less than a few games into the new season is telling. In the short time he's played, he's getting 8 more rebounds than last year. I wasn't suggesting we draft Henson; just that he reminds me a lot of Randolph. Randolph seems more coordinated right now, but they are about as similarly built as you can get.
My pick for a breakout season is Jeffrey Taylor. A good two way player who plays great defense. Sounds like a Morey guy. I predict he will break the top 10 by the time the draft rolls around.
how high do we think kemba walker goes? he looked disgustingly good against kentucky. has the swagger, mid-range game, and ball-handling abilities.
I think he'll sneak in the lottery, but the season is still long and as we all know, one bad game in the NCAA tournament can ruin your stock.

you know whats crazy... rockets might have just had one of the best drafts since yao ming. Dontas was ranked top 7 on every draft board last years mocks and most of the begining of this year...he was ranked right out side of the lottery the year before...and all negativity due to his "character" issues...i heard morey say he has no concerns about his attitude or character after having several dinners with him and talking to people around him. Many draft sites had dontas as a top 3-5 purely on talent and potential. From what ive seen hes almost a carbon copy of Dirk from athletism and offense...His D is in great question...but They say he has excellent shot blocking capability. So we build our defense around keeping people out of the paint like last year and have an extra failsafe with his shot blocking instead of chuck as center. Lakers beat writer said marcus moris was top 5 on the lakers board and morey said he was going to move up to 8 to get marcus but got good intel he might be there at 14. Working off daryls track record... this could be like brooks and landry but instead of 2 above average guys with late picks we might have just got the steals of the draft....... both could end up being best at posistion in the draft.
Interesting. As a freshman at UT, KD was 26/11 and efficient. Last season, Barnes was 16/6 with poor shooting percentages. From what I've seen of him, he has a long way to go. To me, his most striking characteristic is cold-bloodedness in the clutch, not dominance. When Barnes effortlessly throws in 22 first-half points on the road against Duke (like KD did against KU), I'll give him more credit.
Yeah, I wasn't meaning to compare the two. Durant was ready for college from the start and had a much more impressive season. Barnes didn't have the light click on until the later part of the year, but his performances in the clutch were something to behold. I expect him to be a 20 PPG+ player and at the least lead the Tar Heels to the Final Four -- anything less would be a big disappointment. Hopefully with some experience under his belt, he'll be able to turn on the dominant part of his game that he showed in high school.
Didn't Morey say that Markief was rated higher than Marcus. Besides the Lakers aren't very good drafters.
