I like how people on here make light of the "contender" portion of the article and then mention the NY Knicks, lmao. Only on CF.
The Kevin Martin vs Dirk deserves its own thread. I don't think Delambert by himself makes us a contender, but if Lowry, Martin and Scola continue to play well we can go deep in the playoffs. A heallthy Yao, one of our rookies or bench players going beast mode or getting a star player is the only way we become a contender this year.
Outbid Miami and New York by a mill or 2 and re-sign Hayes. I graduated in 06. The Dallas peeps I met and know are one of the main reasons I can't stand the Boys or Mavs.
What worked for Dallas was having Dirk Nowitski and the second highest payroll in the NBA. They're probably the deepest team in the league. How in the world can you compare a team with a superstar and the deepest pockets in the league to the Rockets? HOW?
So when yao was healthy, the rockets couldn't contend, yet after basically missing 2 seasons, we're contenders? Gtfo, lol.
Its not the analytics are wrong, its just that there's more to bball than scoring the ball. KM and Dirk are comparable when it comes to scoring. Dirk also plays solid defense, opens things up for the rest of his team and rebounds the ball at a level KM can't reach which is why Dirk is a legit superstar while KM isn't. Considering most of the other's poster points are all about scoring then's he's probably just arguing the scoring aspect. I don't think you'll find anyway who'll say KM is overall as good as Dirk.
And then what? 46 Wins next year? Signing Dalembert would be a step towards staying in mediocrity. Yes, he's 7 foot, but he's not gonna make much of a difference. I don't think he's better than Hayes, to be quite honest. Going after him would be a mistake.
We're easily a 50 win team assuming we remain healthy. Some of you guys should just not watch any Rockets games next season. You basically want us to tank right out of the gate.
delusion, delusion, and delusion. can anyone entertain me which team dalembert turned it to a contender? don't tell me all teams he was on sucks.
Yep, and we were a 50 win team the year prior. Don't get it do you? Lottery teams are in the lottery for a reason. When the pressure is on to perform, the good teams win games and the lottery teams lose games. Ok, what about the timberwolves game last year? What about losing to philly twice? What about the kings game? Its always something with lotto teams and we're not even talking about the playoffs.
No need to argue about where this team can go, it'll play out on the floor like it always does. And those who are always wrong will continue to be wrong as this core continues to win 65%+ (btw it wasn't post-ASB that we won a lot, the core of Lowry/Hayes/Martin/Scola won that much all season long) of their games, and more if Morris can be good in his rookie season. I still think Dalembert is fail though, he would hardly be an upgrade over Chuck. I'd rather see them unload some salary somehow and sign Gasol to a max deal. (wouldn't we all lol)
Yes. We all agree the Rockets would be marginally better with Dalembert. Now can we also get back to the real discussion of how signing Dalembert now means we'll stand absolutely zero chance of signing Dwight Howard or Chris Paul later? You can call that a pipe dream if you like - but at least it's a far superior pipe dream than a lineup of Lowry/Martin/Morris/Scola and Dalembert contending for a title.
It's too early to speculate, but we could still have money to sign Howard, Paul, or Deron Williams if we spend around 10M this summer. If we're really worried about next summer, trade Scola for an expiring bc we need the ability to sign two max players for it not to be a pipe dream.
