It's obvious hyperbole, so why can't I use a hyerbolized dichotomy of absolutes when rebuttign it? Though I dont' really think anything I said was hyperbole, technically. Further, I don't 'think my dichotomy is all that false. The article repeatedlly compares him to Ike (the obvious contrast to teh preceding FDR/Truman years) and this appears to be a serious argumetn underlying the sarcasm - that Obama is not a large scale reformer like FDR, but a more deliberate moderate like Ike. Again, that comparison is ill-founded, IMO, due to the fact that Obama and FDR faced vastly different realities with what they are realistically able to accomplish in the legislative arena.
I don't think Romney is so much weird but that he has bad advisers who have told him he needs to be more folksy. Also given the pressure of the campaign its hard for him to just act natural.
i think that he has shown over and over again that he is a total toolbag who is completely out of touch. he is easily the biggest phony out there. this is a guy who thinks he is relating to black people by just blurting out "who let the dogs out" or "looks like you got some bling-bling there". or when questioned about why none of his 5 fighting age sons are in the military fighting a war he supports he says "my sons are serving our country by making sure i get elected president". there is alot more of that stuff and when you compound that w/ all his flip-flopping on abortion and romney-care it is hard to take him seriously.
Thought this was interesting. http://publicpolicypolling.blogspot.com/2011/06/gop-candidates-unpopular-at-home.html
There was a fun PPP Poll yesterday that showed Obama leading Perry in Texas; but Bachmann was beating Obama. http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2011/06/poll-perry-trails-obama-in-texas.php?ref=fpb I think we all would agree that if Perry was the nominee, he'd win Texas. But it shows how crazy unpopular some of these people are.
I can't speak about the other candidates but I am not surprised that Pawlenty and Bachmann are doing poorly in MN. Pawlenty was unpopular when he left and given that MN government is likely to shut down tomorrow since there is no budget agreement his popularity isn't likely to improve in MN. While he isn't in office now many blame him for the sorry state of MN budgets. Bachmann has always been a polarizing figure in MN but has benefited from a district that leans conservative, running against two awful opponents in 2006 and 2010 and having opposition vote split in 2008. Outside of conservatives Bachmann has almost no support in MN and even many MN Republicans despise her.
I don't know where else to put this and I don't want to make a new thread. AntiSec Hack Exposes Parts of Florida Voter Database, asks "Who Believes no Voter Fraud Takes Place?"
Me too; but only because Civil and Women's Rights have been addressed, the Independent Counsel is defunct and you can't kill Lumumba twice.
If Romney gets into the White house. we will have capitalist cronies running things. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3gmatoBjWW0
Come on Ms Bachmann! Do you want the basso vote or not??? BREAKING: Bachmann pledges to ban p*rnography
From a recent Anthony Lane review: A solemn voice declares, "We were once a peaceful race of intelligent mechanical beings." Not as you might hope, a trailer for the Second Republican Presidential Debate but a prologue to "Transformers: Dark of the Moon."
Romney is extremely weird. I think it's the biggest obstacle to his election. Bigger than GOP primary, bigger than his chronic flip-flopping, bigger than health care, bigger than unusual religion, bigger than problem of appearing out of touch with the common man due to his incredible riches, bigger than even going against a far superior campaigner in Obama. I think he could possibly overcome all that. But... Dude is weird. And people don't want a weird president. I think that's an even bigger factor in the GOP's anyone but Romney sect than his relatively moderate policies, past and present, nearly 90% of which are flip flops in the rightward direction. I think this part of the party isn't so much disenchanted with his positions; they just can't smell a winner past all the weirdness.
If there was ever a righteous cause to fight for, it's this. As we all know, I'm a liberal, but the day any federal or state govt entity bans pr0n, I'm declaring a 2nd American Revolution. Give me p*rn or give me death!
Does anyone remember this guy Newt Gringrich, his campaign is in debt and he spent $400K on charter flights. can't blame him i guess, i remember hilary's campaign was criticized for living it up like they had won in June 08 and prior.
