Seriously does anybody ACTUALLY think we are going to land one of them. Lets be real, we couldnt even land Gortat in free agency, albiet he was restricted, but so is Gasol, and with all his recent success in Memphis why would he want to go anywhere?? I mean why would DMorey be jones'n so hard on Beidrins if he thought we a shot at a top 5 center in the league. Don't get me wrong I'm wishing and praying just as hard as the rest of you, I just don't see either one of them coming here. Only time will tell, until then I'm riding the new and improved Jordan Hill train to the bank. Dude is about to BREAKTHROUGH, new attitude, harder work ethic, and something to prove...LOOKOUT! -BIGHCHAMP
And you expect this trade would even be considered? By someone employable in NBA? Utter nonsense. Sorry, I'm cranky on this type thread. My bad.
Gasol without a doubt. People who say we have zero chance at either of them are wrong. In years past, we were still paying 16 million a piece to an injured Yao and Tmac. Now, we're only paying big money to Martin and Scola and in reality, they're not anywhere near the salary of other teams star players. By over paying for Gasol, we wouldn't have to trade any of our core players at all. Give him max money and bring him to Houston!
You should read up about this thing called the salary cap. It kind of restricts what and how much we can pay. http://www.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/rockets.jsp There's a good start.
Morey wouldn't sign both of them. Most of our contracts will be expired in 2013, where big names such as DH, CP3 and Deron Williams will be avalible on the market. I think we should tank for two years, get good young players, sign one or two of the big names in 2013 and we will be a championship contender again.
Gasol's got just as much skill as Nene in a bigger body. The dude is just huge even compared to other seven footers. He's always active on the boards and isn't a liability in terms of speed. He may not be on a whole other tier, but he's clearly better.
Everybody that's saying we have no chance of getting either needs to calm down...the OP never said anything about that. All that was said was posing the hypothetical question of who you would rather have on the Rockets. That said I believe the answer is hands down, no questions asked Marc Gasol. This guy is a rare and legitimate seven footer. He is massive and that is what the Rockets need most - size. He is an excellent rim protector, an underrated rebounder, and he has a very high knowledge of the game that allows him to have a positive impact offensively whether through creative passes or his 15-18 foot jump shot. He even posseses a solid post game. I think he's worth overpaying for. Not a max contract, but maybe pretty close. Nene is not quite seven feet and, although he is a nice player, I don't think he solves all the needs for the Rockets at the center position that Gasol does. He's not quite long enough to be considered a rim protector and I think defense is the key skill to consider when looking at a center for the Rockets. Nene is a tough and hard working player who does more with his body than most could but the Rockets have plenty of that type of player. We need someone with more physical talent and I would love for Gasol to be that guy.
If the Rockets were to get a shot at getting a C, I would like Gasol better than Nene. Nene disappears a lot in games while Gasol at least is constant in his play.
Gasol is the closest thing to a big brutal traditional center that can move. There's really nothing else. I think Nene can be a back up 5 but is more suited at the 4. I'm will to deal Scola just to get Nene but want to have Marco Gasol @ the 5. How the heck can you not want Gasol. Not max but at least $12mill a year which is worth it. Did you see the PlayOffs?
Marc Gasol shows much more Basketball IQ. I would not want Nene! We have a rockets tradition to keep up!
Unless you draft one, the only way to get a center of Gasol's level any time soon is by overpaying. He's worth it
I didn't forget him, I just don't see him being obtainable. The Dallas Mavericks just won the NBA championship with him playing a big role as their starting center. Do you really think they'll let him get away?
