Assuming we clear enough room to offer MAX to either one of them. Which one would you go for? Marc is a RFA while Nene is a FA. Need to consider that too.
Neither are max players. Gasol is closer to a max guy, but also much less likely IMO. So I voted Nene. Not for more than $11-12 mil a year, though.
ye, overpay is a beautiful thing, we should definitely do it... while the whole league is trying to cut down the # of overpaying contracts with a new CBA.
Both of them sounds good. One is very athletic other one is very good defender. Get at least one of them and we are in the playoffs.
i prefer Nene, love Marcs' game but a bit of a non factor offensively. Nene can do a bit of both. He can defend, scorer, and run. Nene over Marc but for a 8-10 mil range. Doesnt have many miles left getting pretty old.
Nene probably is a better scorer but Gasol is no slouch. Plus he's a better defender, rebounder , he's younger and taller, plus has more upside. No doubt you take Gasol.
Just curious - - how do you propose acquiring either long gentleman? Or perhaps even TAMU Jordan? Starting 5? This whole idea is a NON-starter!
Gasol fits this team's needs better. We need defense. When you consider height and age, too, it's an easy choice.
I agree that you will probably have to overpay to pry either of them away. I'd prefer Gasol over Nene. Probably something like $13-$14 million, 4 years guarenteed, 5th year team option. Huge investment, but unless you draft an all star center, youre not likely to get one without overpaying.
Gasol and it's not even close. He should get max money, he's already a top 3 C and can improve much much more. Nene should not get more than Haywood.
Marc's basket IQ, passing, high post/low post game, leadership, has been crucial to the development of Grizzlies offense. Inconvenients: - You got to overpay to get Marc. - Both are below average rebounders. - Nene is a 6-10 center. - Marc will spend every summer playing with his national team (not to work on improbing his body and his offensive game). Also means more physical wear. - Marc is a very good defender inside, not that good outside, not the most mobile guy at the position. Nene is sometimes lackadaisical.
Only reason it might seem that way is that he plays next to Zach Randolph. His usage and rebounding rates are both muted because of that. If you watch him play, you come away with the understanding that he just might be the second best (true) center in the league. I'd absolutely push my chips onto the table trying to snag him.
